WELCOME TO FIFTH GRADE AT SHADY
GROVE ELEMENTARY!
There is a magnicent school year ahead of us, lled
with engaging experiences, tons of technology, and
academic achievement. I am eager to serve you and your
childs needs.
Dr. Haim Ginott, a school teacher, articulates a philosophy I strongly believe in:
I've come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the
classroom. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a
tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture
or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations,
it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a
child humanized or de-humanized.
I believe it is my job to educate children as
"an instrument of inspiration." I believe in a
student-centered approach built on a
foundation of empathy and mutual respect for
all.
All students have the ability to learn. It is my
job to foster and encourage my students to
strive toward becoming life long learners.
