Christmas is a time for celebrating. It is also a time for
looking back and refecting on the year that was.
Each one of us here at the Public Information Ofce
hopes that the recent issues of our magazine succeeded in
featuring the best of what Marikina has to ofer. It is our
fervent wish that not only where you entertained and in-
formed, but that you were also convinced into residing in
Marikina, investing in Marikina, and visiting Marikina.
Help us be more efective in promoting the beauty of this
once rustic eastern town a once glorious Shoe Capital try-
ing its best to deserve the nations patronage once again. We
would appreciate your inputs on how to make our promo-
tional tools more potent.
Help us spread the word among your loved ones and
friends Make it Marikina!
PAUL EDWARD SISON
I send you my heartiest greetings as we celebrate Christmas
2013. As always, this is the time to remember how the Word was
made fesh and dwelt among us not to be served but to serve.
Indeed, the story of Christmas has taken on a most timely
signifcance in the midst of unprecedented destruction brought
about by super typhoon Yolanda. Millions of our compatriots
are mired in indescribable misery, anxiously waiting for help to
assuage their physical hunger, transcend emotional pain, allevi-
ate mental anguish and remain hopeful in order to rebuild their
shattered lives. Te transition will not be easy and so it behooves
us to commiserate with them and give a part of ourselves to ease
their burden.
For many, Christmas is a time for coming together. But for
others, service will come frst. Tose in search, rescue, relief and
rehabilitation eforts whose sense of duty takes them away from
family and friends, will be missing those they love. And those
who have lost loved ones may fnd this day especially agonizing.
Tats why its important at this time of year to reach out beyond
our familiar relationships to think of those who are out there in
areas of massive devastation and untold suferings.
We should be struck by how the spirit of togetherness lies
also at the heart of the Christmas story. A young mother and
a dutiful father with their baby were joined by poor shepherds
and visitors from afar. Tey came with their gifs to worship the
Christ child. From that day on
He has inspired people to com-
mit themselves to the best inter-
ests of others. By restoring love
and service to the center of our
lives, it is my prayer that His
example and teaching will con-
tinue to bring people together to
give the best of themselves in the
service of others during these
trying times.
I wish you all a happy and a
very meaningful Christmas.

Once upon a time, there was a young lady

lady? Janet Usman. Janet, wife of Roderick Us-

collecting Santa fgurines that their house now
showcases more or less 1,500 varieties of Santa

Its all about uniqueness. - Tats how
internationally multi-awarded photographer,
Dionisio Jundio Salvador, perceives pho-
tography.
A member of the prestigious Samahan ng
mga Litratista sa Rizal (SLR), Jundio started
his fervor in photography while cameras were
still in the flm age. But it wasnt until the dig-
ital age for cameras did he turns photography
into passion.
Jundio was one of those afected by On-
doy. He was caught of-guard by the sudden
rise of the water while he was driving. While
taking refuge in the house of a kind-hearted
Korean during the storm, all he had was his
newly bought digital camera. As the water
subsided and he was on his way home, he
took pictures of the afermath. Such is the
power of those images he captured that soon
he was earning recognition in the interna-
tional community. Tese photographs would
soon inspire our international neighbors -
particularly an American Baptist Church, to
aid in the relief operation for the victims of
Ondoy.

RANCHO
ESTATE IV-EAST
Cold breeze of nature and peace and order,
thats how the homeowners ofcers and couple
described Rancho IV East when they moved
there fve years ago. Before, they lived in an ex-
ecutive village in Paraaque City, but when they
heard about the village in Marikina, there were
no second thoughts of having a new home there.
Rancho IV East is a private subdivision and a
gated community. It consists of small residential
streets and includes various shared amenities. It
has a covered basketball court, volleyball court,
Grotto, and a playground park. It also boast its
refectorized corner gutters and posts for safe
driving.
Mercy Ong, the re-elected president of the
homeowners association said that security is
their number one priority. In fact they installed
two CCTV cameras at the entrances of the village
to prevent criminals from entering their vicinity.
We also initiated a security scheme among our
Quality of life
at its fnest
residents by designating a hotline number connected to
the guards on duty for immediate emergency response.
We are also planning to add six more CCTVs to make
our security measures even more intensifed.
At the heart of the village is a cozy and relaxing park
and playground accentuated by animal replicas. Tis
place is best for enjoying quality time with family on
weekends or even during hangouts with friends.
As a way of fostering community spirit and promot-
ing camaraderie among its residents, Mercy Ong care-
fully nurtured a fun and exciting life for Rancho IV East
residents. We have several events like Breakfast with the
Homeowners and some calendar events which we yearly
celebrate, as well as some sports festivals. Trough this,
she believes that the quality of life of the residents is tru-
ly enjoyable and memorable.
Aside from these developments, they also help the
city government with easy collection of plastic bottles
within their community.

Its actually the quiet ones who ofen draw
the most attention.
Afer your Qizia experience, you will surely
fnd out what Amy Efar was trying to imply in
her quote.
Qizia, the silent player as their opera-
tions manager would describe it, is indeed one
of those quiet ones drawing attention. And
why would it not? Winning Best Pasta Award
for 2013 and being one of the Most Afordable
Restaurants of 2011 featured in Ang Pinaka of
GMA News TV, defnitely rouses the curiosity of
ones taste buds.
In the year 2007, what started out as a hum-
ble small cofee shop that served as an extension
of the hospital, Qizia is now also the home to
scrumptious pasta and pizza. And dont forget
about their meals! Each cuisine has an eccentric
blend of ingredients that comes as a pleasant
surprise. Dont believe me? Try their cheese
sticks. Quite common right? But theirs is some-
thing special. A roll of tissue wont be enough to
wipe the smile of your face afer tasting their
version of this dish. Curious? Go ahead and try
their meals.
