As organizations working (directly or indirectly) with children, we need to check:
Are we accountable and committed to child protection within our organization?
Do we look at our workforce, internal organizational policies and systems to ensure that they are compliant with fundamental principles of child protection?
Do we guarantee all that is declared in the UNCRC to children who come in contact with us in policy and practice?
You can ensure a protective, uncompromisable and empowering environment for children by integrating your work ethic with your Child Protection Policy. This month's edition of our newsletter can support you as you draft your Child Protection Policy. Read and Share.

June 2014 Vol.III The Need To Look Within Your Organization and Child Protection
Case 1: Our organization works on Womens issues. Is there a need for a child protection policy?
Case 2: We have recreational centers for children. Our staff is experienced and trained in child rights, we dont see the need to have a separate child protection policy. We come across these responses from organizations who work with children either directly or indirectly. In most cases there is no system of child protection in an organization that does not directly work with children. What is more discomforting is that many organizations that work with children on a daily basis also do not have a child protection policy. We see this as one of the biggest deterrents to child protection in India today. As organizations working (directly or indirectly) with children, we need to check: Are we accountable and committed to child protection within our organization? Do we look at our workforce, internal organizational policies and systems to ensure that they are compliant with fundamental principles of child protection? Do we guarantee all that is declared in the UNCRC to children who come in contact with us in policy and practice? You can ensure a protective, uncompromisable and empowering environment for children by integrating your work ethic with your Child Protection Policy. What is a Child Protection Policy? The Child Protection Policy is a document that highlights organizational position on child protection and mechanisms to protect children. Just as we would have a gender policy and a sexual harassment committee, a child protection policy is mandatory for all organizations, which come in contact with children (directly or indirectly) irrespective of the nature of their work. Child Protection should be deep-rooted in organizational culture. Every person in our organization from office boy to administrators to the Director should understand it and make sure it gets implemented. Our child protection policy has to be understood and followed by children and others who come to our organization. We often conduct sessions that teach children their rights as enshrined by the UNCRC and the Constitution of India. Can we also tell them about our organizational child protection policy?
