THE COLLECTIVE/ANG KALIPUNAN

PROCEDURES
1. THE COLLECTIVE features short-form conference presentations.
2. The conference welcomes speakers to talk about things they care about that has impact into society. Preference is
given on topics in the social sciences.

3. The speakers will have 6-minute presentation slots (fashioned after TED Talks). The time limit should be strictly
observed. The idea is to be straightforward and fast paced yet interesting.
4. The speakers may use any visual aids like slide show presentations or flipcards. It is reminded that as a general
guideline, slide presentations should have few texts (not more than 70 words per slide) and enriched with images.
Projectors will be provided.

5. Questions regarding the presentations will be entertained after the presentations.
SOME REMINDERS
Speakers are asked to do six things in their talk:
1. Distill all you have to say into a 6- minute talk
2. Be authentic
3. Convey one strong idea
4. Tell a story that hasnt been told before
5. Tell and not sell
6. Absolutely and positively stick to the time limit
Do those things and you too can give the talk of your life.
Practical Speaking Tips
In terms of preparation and practice, here the advice to you:

Memorize your talk where possible and refer back to notes
Get 8-hours sleep after practicing. This helps your brain commit, process, and store the speech, allowing you
to remember what youve crammed for.
Give the speech to a small audience the day before
Give the speech to yourself an hour before your actual speech
Practice in the venue where youll be talking get on the stage if possible beforehand.
