2. Who should upgrade to DRAWings version X3 or DRAWings version X3 Professional

Edition?
Everyone that already owns DRAWings version 1.12 or DRAWings version 1.12 Plus. DRAWings
version X3 is actually the forth generation of the DRAWings software after version 1.11 and 1.12.
Over one year of development has gone into the making this version the most technologically
advanced embroidery software on the market. Both the Standard version and the Professional
Edition have greatly benefited from the improvements made to the stitch engine. Numerous new
tools and capabilities have been added to the Professional Edition. Except for the addition of a
Cross Stitch feature, the tools in the standard version have remain largely unchanged. Both
versions will produce significantly better sewing quality with the upgraded stitch engine.

3. Should I upgrade to DRAWings version X3 or DRAWings version X3 Professional Edition?

Although both versions benefit from the new stitch engine, the Professional Edition has been
designed to meet the needs of the embroidery professional. The Professional Edition has fully
editing capabilities for modify important stitch parameters including stitch direction, sequencing,
satin stitch mitering, density, compensation, underlay and stitch length. In addition, the
Professional Edition has an advanced appliqué feature capable of producing single and multicolor
appliqués for use with a laser cutter or Ioline 301 system. The reason for upgrading to the
standard version would be to take advantage of the improved stitch engine. The reason for
upgrading to the Professional Edition would be to taken advantage of the new editing features
and appliqué function. The vast majority of DRAWings users will upgrade to the Professional
Edition.

4. Will I need a new dongle if I upgrade?

No, your existing DRAWing’s dongle (hardware key) can be upgraded by purchasing a serial
number.

5. Will I have to adjust to a new user-interface?

The basic user-interface is the same as DRAWings version 1.12. However, there are many new
functions as well as a Status bar in the Stitch workspace that estimates your stitch count.

6. Will you provide technical support for my upgraded version?

All DRAWings upgrade versions include 5 phone support incidents from Digital Art Solutions.

7. What CorelDRAW version is Version X3 compatible with?

DRAWings version X3 and version X3 Professional Edition are compatible with CorelDRAW X3.
A CorelDRAW X3 Upgrade can be purchased with your DRAWings X3 or X3 Pro upgrade.

8. How will my productivity improve with DRAWings version X3?

Complicated tasks such as prepping images for embroidery will be come automatic. You will no
longer worry about using the Simplify or Trim functions in CorelDRAW to prep images for the
embroidery process. Overlapping objects in a design will be automatically trimmed through each
other and an overlapping seam will be created. If you do not want to trim an object through
another object, the Professional version of DRAWings will all you to turn this feature off for a
specific object. This is an incredibly powerful function that will dramatically decrease your
production time and increase your sewing quality. Currently the overlapping of seams must be
done manually in CorelDRAW by manipulating the vectors in the object(s). The new stitch engine
eliminates the need to manually prep vector images.

9. What’s New in DRAWings Version X3 Professional Edition?

The majority of new features have been added to the Professional Edition of DRAWings.
DRAWings Standard Edition will have the same general feature set as Version 1.12.

Advanced Features of DRAWings X3 Professional Edition

NEW – Status Bar: The new Status bar in the Stitch Workspace will display the stitch height,
width, number of thread colors and estimated stitch count of a design. The Status bar is updated
every time a change is made in either the CorelDRAW or Stitch workspace.

NEW Cross Stitch Feature: Both the Standard

Edition and Professional Edition have a new cross
stitch function that automatically create cross
stitch patterns from a bitmap or photo. This feature
is very popular in the home embroidery industry,
but is also useful for commercial embroidery. The
ability to created an embroidery patterns from a
photograph opens up entirely new possibilities for
DRAWings users.

NEW - Sequence Control : Unlike the Standard edition of DRAWings,

the Professional Edition will allow complete control over the
embroidery sequence. Various sequencing strategies can be selected
for sewing on caps or specialty fabrics. The first and last object that
are sewn in a design can be designated from a drop down list.

NEW - Satin Stitch Mitering: Unlike the Standard edition of

DRAWings, the Professional Edition will allow complete control over
the "miter" points in a satin stitch by inserting and manipulating divider
lines. This allows for complete adjustment over the embroidery blocks
in a satin stitch.

NEW - Overlap Control: The Professional Edition will allow complete control over overlapping
objects in the embroidery. Overlapping objects will be trimmed through each other automatically
with an overlap at the seams between objects. This will prevent a gap between sewn objects. In
addition, the automatic trimming of overlapping objects can be turned off to enable objects to sew
on top of each other. The Simplify or Trim commands in CorelDRAW are no longer required to
remove object overlaps.

NEW - Thickness View: The Professional Edition has a

new view that will display overlapping objects by a color
code. Objects that are on top of each other will be coded
with specific colors. This enables automatic trimming of
overlapping objects to be turned off using visual cues.

NEW - Zig Zag Stitch Library: The Professional Edition

has an extensive selection of new zig zag stitches for
the production of appliqué. The stitch length of each zig
zag stitch can be fully adjusted. Different types of zig
zag stitches are available with varying offset distances
and positions. Multi-layer “kiss cut” appliqués are now
possible with the addition of the new appliqué and zig
zag functions.

Underlay Adjustment: Underlay stitches are used to support the final

stitches that are placed on the fabric. Unlike the Standard Level of
DRAWings, the Plus level of DRAWings will allow the user to manually
adjust underlay stitches for individual objects in a design.

Density Adjustment: Density describes the distance between two

stitches. If density is low, there is more space between the stitches
than if density is high. The Standard level of DRAWings will
automatically assign density based upon the fabric preset. The
Professional Edition of DRAWings will enable the user to manually
adjust density for a given object or select a fabric preset.

Pro Edition Advanced Features

Compensation Adjustment: Compensation is a deliberate distortion built into an embroidery

design to compensate for the push or pull on the fabric as a result of the embroidery stitches.
DRAWings will automatically create the correct compensation based upon the suggested backing
material and the preset fabric. The Professional Edition of DRAWings will allow the user to
manually adjust compensation for individual objects in a design.

Appliqué Features: Appliqué is a sewing

process where an embroidered design is used
to attach a cut piece of fabric to a garment.
Normally a reference stitch is sewn on the
garment in order to place the fabric in the
correct position before a satin or zig zag stitch
can cover the seams of the fabric and attach it
to the substrate. The Professional Edition of
DRAWings has specialized functions for
producing appliqué and adjusting the stitch
properties for specific stitch types. Multi-layer

10. What are the major differences between DRAWings version X3 Standard and DRAWings
version X3 Professional Edition?
Both new versions benefit from the improvements made to the stitch engine including better
handling of thread trims/lock stitches, the automatic overlapping function and numerous
improvements to overall sewing quality. DRAWings X3 Standard is being positioned in the
marketplace as a home embroidery software. DRAWings X3 Professional Edition is being
positioned in the marketplace as professional solution for commercial embroidery:
 DRAWings Standard does not have the ability to change technical embroidery
parameters such as stitch direction, sequencing, stitch length, density, compensation, or
underlay stitches. The only way to manipulate the sewing parameters in DRAWings
Standard is to change fabric presets.
 DRAWings Standard requires that all design and editing work be accomplished in the
CorelDRAW workspace. DRAWings Professional Edition has an extensive list of editing
tools to adjust sewing quality and parameters.
 DRAWings Standard does not have an advanced appliqué function for creating sew disks
for appliqué with zig zag, e-stich or satin patterns.

11. Will DRAWings X3 work with my Smart Designer?

Yes, Smart Designer X3 users can fully integrate DRAWings X3 or DRAWings X3 Professional
Edition into the CorelDRAW workspace using Smart Window Technology. The screen can be split
between CorelDRAW and DRAWingws and images can be drag and dropped between both
programs. A Smart Designer X3 Upgrade can be purchased with your DRAWings X3 Upgrade.

12. What is the best reason for upgrading to DRAWings X3 Professional Edition?
Improved efficiency and embroidery quality is the best reason for upgrading to DRAWings version
X3 Professional Edition. The new features and capabilities of DRAWings X3 Professional Edition
