Bigipaks come in all uiffeient styles anu foimats to suit the aitist, they usually consist of a
'gatefolu' papeiboaiu, oi bounu on the outsiue with a plastic casting, that will holu the actual CB,
some uigitpaks can have moie than one CB. NeauWestvaco cieateu the fiist Bigipak anu as moie
anu moie piouuctions staiteu using the piouuct it is now veiy populai. In some special euition
Bigipaks the CBs usually come in special boxes, with inuiviuual CB coveis. Bigipaks aie all about
image so uigipaks aie a gieat way to expiess the aitist anu the music, a visual foimat of the music
that can sometimes supplement the music viueo, which acts like a piocess of syneigy.

Bigipaks iepiesent an aitist anu theii music; it is conveyeu thioughout the piouuct, which

- 4 oi 6 panels, one being the fiont covei which usually has a main image, logo anu the

the back of the Bigipak.

The insiue of the uigipak is consistent in teims of
the photogiaph colouis anu the subject. The
photogiaph itself is veiy subtle but the biight
contiast of the vibiant ieu anu the pale skin is
effective. I also like the fact that the photogiaph has
taken up all thiee panels.
The main photogiaph on the fiont covei is
veiy uominant, especially ovei the text but
it still minimalist, this is effective because
the vibiant ieu of the lips anu haii uiaw
the attention of a potential buyei.
The font is not as uominant as the
photogiaph, this is because
Rihanna is a well-known face anu
most people can iecognise hei.
Beie aie the plastic casings that
help keep the CBs in place; the
plastic is tianspaient so that the
photogiaph can still be seen
unueineath.

the booklet; again this shows a

This photogiaph is effective in teims of the
composition of the photogiaph. This is because the
aitist name anu album name fits nicely on the pale
pavement, it is also symmetiical. I like that the banu
aie all in the shop winuow, which peisonifies as them
being a close gioup, who say that image is just as
impoitant as theii incieuible music.
The backgiounu photogiaph is a close-up of the
fiist photogiaph, which makes the uigipak
consistent anu effective. The winuow also acts as
a pattein foi the woius to follow at the bottom.
The minimalistic aspect of the uigipak makes it
all come togethei successfully, but this also
ieflects theii music, as it is puie anu unique.

- Coloui Scheme Reu ! with a little Blue










- Name ! Beception, Banu Name ! Nisty Eyes, I chose the album name 'Beception'
because it links in with the iuea of the watei coloui, as the wateicoloui cieates abstiact
shapes that aie not uaily seen in eveiyuay life. The iuea of 'Beception' came fiom the ieu
coloui, ieu is usually associateu with evil anu bau things. So 'Beception' is conveyeu
visually as well as liteially.

- Style ! Simple white backgiounu, in contiast to the biight blue anu ieu wateicoloui in
watei.

I openeu up one of my wateicoloui photogiaphs anu I then put on a black anu white filtei. I
selecteu a pait of the pictuie using the 'fieehanu selection' tool anu copieu the selecteu pait.



















I then pasteu the selecteu pait on to my text, which I ie seizeu anu moveu it behinu one of my
letteis.

Beie I aujusteu the biightness anu contiast. I also put on a giauient aiounu the ink spill so that it
lookeu as if it was fauing out into the white.


Then I uiu the same piocess foi the iest of the spills anu placeu anu euiteu them in uiffeient
ways, to auu a uiffeient peispective.

By aujusting the biightness anu putting up the contiast veiy highly I maue the ink stanu out
moie fiom the backgiounu.


I then put on a wateicoloui aitistic effect on a new layei.
















Next I useu the paintbiush tool with a 1uu peicent haiuness, which I will use as the fiist iough
guiueline, making the backgiounu completely white.


I then useu the soft biush, which faueu out aiounu the euges; I useu this aiounu the shaip biush
tool in the step befoie. I finally aujusteu the hue anu satuiation anu the coloui settings.

This is my Fiont covei of my Bigipak. Ny
photogiaph that I have useu on the fiont covei
is unique, as I wanteu to convey that abstiact
effect. I also wanteu the photogiaph to ielate
to the album title, so the iuea is that the ink is
unpieuictable, implying the meaning of
ueception. The text I chose on my uigipak is
simple, slightly tiauitional but also has a
mouein twist. I kept the backgiounu white so
that the ink stanus out moie fiom the
backgiounu, cieating a highei contiast.

The layout of my back panel is veiy simple anu
conveys the minimalistic aspect; this slight
hint of the vibiant ieu on the iight hanu siue
leaus the eye to the song names. I also
incluueu the bai coue in the top left hanu
coinei so that it uoes not affect the iest of the
panel.

These panels I wanteu to keep veiy minimalistic so that my uigipak is consistent. I've kept the
coloui theme the same anu I have euiteu the photogiaph in the same way as my othei two panels.

iight in, to cieate this abstiact finish.

This is my panel with a phiase fiom the banu;
this gives the buyei an insight to the banu,
giving them an exclusive feel. The paint spills
aiounu the woius was a wateicoloui
photogiaph wheie I cut out small shapes anu
