2014s International Day of Biological Diversity

is a historical day for Biological Diversity in the world. That day, the people
celebrates the International Day of Biological Diversity. This is an opportunity for all the
citizens of our beloved Earth to show their love by words and actions in local level, national
level, or even bigger, in international level.
This year, International Day of Biological Diversity held by theme, Island Biodiversity .
The theme was chosen with some of international levels decision, like United Nations General
Assembly of 2014 and COP 11th decision. The inhabitants of islands are endemics and some of
them are endangered species. Apart from the fauna and flora, the total people who are living on
the islands is around 600 million or 1/10 of worlds population. The islanders people who are
living on the islands live from the biodiversity of the islands, to support their livelihood, economics,
and also their culture.
The celebration in Indonesia was held by Rare Indonesia, an organization that inspires
people to make changes and improvement in local level to solve environmental problems. Rare
Indonesia held a photo exhibition and talk show with theme Rares 12 Years Effort in Conserving
Islands Biodiversity. This event spread the awareness of Biodiversity issues to government, local
people, and also neighbouring countries.
How can we help for the sustainable of Islands Biodiversity? By doing simple things
like put the garbage in the recycle bin and reduce the pollution by less smoking, less using of
private transportation, and more using of public transportation.
