Song
Song title:
Stay
Artist:
Jakwob
Genre:
Dubstep/Electro
What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?
Dubstep/electro is a genre that doesnt really tend to use the power of music video to
promote their songs and increase the popularity of the specific track. The sound is the most
important focus of the track.
But from what I have found of Artists that have created videos typical conventions include
bright lighting which include flashing/strobe lights and dancing from a younger audience of
teenagers and young adults drinking and smoking, from this I can gather that the intention is
to create a party atmosphere and show people enjoying the sound.
The music videos dont really tend to have a message behind them and if they do then it is
very subtle and loosely related to track itself.
How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?
Because this particular genre that I have picked does not really use the help of music videos
to promote their music I feel that I am able to have more freedom with what I choose to do.
However I am taking inspiration from the artist of the track I have chosen to create a music
video for from his past videos that have been produced for his tracks.
Style
Having researched Jakwobs past music videos that have been produced and analysing
them I have gathered that the style that is most popularly used by him is Narrative so
therefore this is the style that I have also chosen to use.
Costume
A generic convention of the dubstep/electro music video is to use teenagers and young
adults so because of this I am also use this age range of actors and actress and therefore I
have decided that the costume will be causal but showing different styles that are worn by
teenagers and to also make the video more realistic.
Lighting
The typical lighting in a dubstep/electro music video is flashing lighting and strobe lighting
creating the atmosphere of a club or party, however I am taking inspiration from Jakwobs
music videos in particular and more often than not he doesnt use that style of lighting so I
am going to use natural lighting in my music video; night and day etc.
Locations
I am going to use a number of different locations for my music video because my music
video is using narrative and the story is all about a journey of someone leaving so there will
be different locations for different parts of her journey. Some of these locations include;
house, train station/car etc.
Shot types
For my music video I am going to use a large variety of different shots; long shots,
establishing shots, close ups, extreme close ups and many more. The reason behind using
as large amount of shots is so that it is kept interesting so the audience do not loose interest.
Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
On order to gain inspiration and get ideas for my music video I have watched a number of
different videos of the particular genre; dubstep/electro that my song choice falls in to. The
one video that I have got most of my inspiration from is another song by Jakwob and it is
Jakwob Somebody New ft. Tiffani Juno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABQsm1iCljA
I also watched; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxvJqeuUfoE
How have these videos influenced the decisions made?
From watching these videos it gave me the video to base my video on one main character;
the girl and her journey of getting away. It also influenced by idea to use a large variety of
shots in my music video.
Lyrics
Stay now
I know it's safe now
Thunder and rain clouds
Are drifting away
Oh come soon
You could go
But then you would have to try and fight the cold
All by yourself
You could leave
But you know deep down your heart is set with me
The clouds will clear in time
Stay now
I know it's safe now
Thunder and rain clouds
Are drifting away
Oh come soon
4x
You might think that the rain will clense you
Drown your worries and wash your fears away
But the grey skies will all soon turn blue
And tomorrow will be a brighter day
Stay now
I know it's safe now
Thunder and rain clouds
Are drifting away
Oh come soon
