Backlog in Background Processing

Summary
Background jobs are jobs that are run using background processes, there are times when a
backlog can occur.
This error can occur when:
too many Background jobs are scheduled
not enough background processes
Details
1.Log into SA !"#.
$.%heck background processes using transaction SM50, i& there are application ser'ers check
transaction SM51 and double click on each application ser'er to 'iew their work processes.
(.Background processes are labeled as B!). *ou will know a background process is in use as
the Time,+eport and "ser columns will be populated ne,t to it in S-./.
0.#& most or all o& the B!) processes appear in use, go to S-(1 and enter selection criteria to
'iew all released jobs. Sort in descending order by the Delay column.
..#& there are two or more jobs with a delay greater than /, note this in the ticket and escalate
to an engineer as there may be an issue in the system.
2.#& there are no jobs in delay, or only one with a delay less than 1// seconds, you can close
the ticket as processes ha'e likely cleared. 3owe'er, i& we continue to recei'e alert tickets &rom
the system with a single job in delay, paste the in&ormation in the ticket and escalate to an
engineer as more background processes may need to be added to handle the system4s load.
