Using the Restroom
1. You may not use the restroom during class discussions and lecture

going to be sick or have an
accident. If you have an
emergency, just go to the
bathroom. Come back and
explain later.
3. If you need to use the restroom, use the 1 finger signal to ask to
leave your desk. After the teacher acknowledges you, you may quietly
get up from your seat, sign out from the sheet, and then take the
bathroom pass.
4. Return the pass and sign back in when you are finished.
5. Appropriate times to use the bathroom include: before school, before
recess, after lunch, and before afternoon recess.

at the edge of your desk.

after lunch.

times unless you have the hiccups.

pass.

Preparing for Lunch
1. Wait quietly at your desk until the teacher asks for students having
cold lunch to get their things. Silently go out to your locker/cubby
and get your lunch, then line up in the classroom.
2. If you have hot lunch, wait quietly at your desk until your name is
called. Collect your ticket and line up.
3. Be on your BEST behavior in the lunchroom and at recess. Remember,
you are stars representing our classroom. Try to make a new friend!

1. Lunch count will be taken in the morning. Find the clothespin on the
lunch count board with your name on it.

lunch from home.

turn and face the flag, and put your right hand over your heart.

about what a great day you are going to have and all the things you are
excited to learn about!
When You Are Done with Your Work
1. If you finish an assignment, first work on any
other assignments that you didnt finish for the
day.
2. If you are all done with your work, you may read a
book, write and illustrate a story, practice your
multiplication tables, use the science or math
centers, design a stamp for our post office, or
check the What Can I Do Now? bulletin board for some fun ideas. I
will also post a few ways that you can help me out, if you choose to be
so generous with your free time!

Signals for Attention
1. The main attention sign is the 2 finger signal. When you see me use it,
stop what you are doing immediately and look at me, ready to listen.
You may also copy the 2 finger signal to alert others around you that
they need to stop what they are doing and listen.
2. I may also use chimes or a clapping game to get your attention.
3. If you are the last to realize that I am waiting for your attention, do
not be embarrassed. Someone has to be the last one! Just pay more
attention to your surroundings next time.
Helping Other Students
1. If another student is
having a problem or
has a question, feel
free to help them!
We are all here to
learn together. One
of the best ways to
learn is to teach!
2. If you cannot help
them, they may ask me for help.
3. Never put down a student who asks for help. The next time we try
something new, you may be the student who needs help. How would
you feel?
Emergencies
Fire Drill
1. The fire drill is loud so lets be as quiet as we can! When you hear the
fire drill, immediately STOP what you are doing.

your hands to yourself.

nearest exit.
4. Once we get outside, still use your WALKING FEET to walk all the
way to the other end of the playground.
5. Sit criss-cross applesauce with your hands in your lap. You may talk
quietly with your neighbor until the fire drill is over.
6. When we are allowed to go back in, stand up and remain in line. We
will silently walk back inside our classroom and resume what we were
working on.
Tornado Drill
1. When the tornado drill whistle blows, walk quickly to the wall where
we line up.
2. Sit criss-cross applesauce facing the wall.
3. Place your hands over the back of your head and try to get your face
as close to your lap as possible.
4. Stay this way until the whistle stops. Then you may get up and quickly
and quietly go back to your work.
Supplies
Using Supplies
1. Treat my supplies as if they were your own.
2. Leave them in the same or better condition than you found them in.
3. Share with others.

the 1 finger signal), and after lunch.
3. Please make sure you have at least 2 sharp pencils to
start the day.
4. If we are in the middle of a lesson and you need a
sharpened pencil, raise your pencil in the air and wait to be
acknowledged by the teacher.

seat and exchange your pencil for a sharpened one from the
emergency stash by the pencil sharpener.

deducting one point from your assignments.

group lessons or lecture learning time.
Please wait until work time to get a tissue
and blow your nose.

you may get up and get a tissue. However,
it is rude to blow your nose loudly when
someone else is talking.
3. If you need a tissue, give the 1 finger signal indicating that you
would like to get up from your seat and wait for the teacher to
acknowledge you.
Throwing Trash Away
1. You may throw trash away as long as we are not doing a group activity
or someone is not speaking in the front of the room.

something valuable, put the item on my desk for safekeeping.

4. At the end of the month we will clean out the Lost and Found Box. If
no one claims the item, the person who turned it in will get to keep it.

Organizing Your Desk
1. Get rid of all loose papers. Decide if they should go home or stay at
school. If they go home, place them on the LEFT side of your
homework folder, so that your
parents/guardians know that they can
stay home.
2. Papers left at school should remain in the
book of the subject they are for.
3. Pencils and art supplies belong in your
pencil box.
4. Pick up the trash around your desk.
5. Do not bring toys into the classroom. They may get
broken or lost. They do not belong in your desk unless you have
special permission from the teacher.
6. Being organized helps you learn!
