PHYSICS GRADE 10 LAB 1

Objectives :
-To familiarize yourself with laboratory equipment
-To measure displacement and velocity

Materials :
-Vernier data-collection interface with LabQuest App
-Motion Detector
-Vernier Dynamics Track
-Vernier Dynamics Cart

Results :

(Graph 1)

(Graph 2)

(Graph 3)

Analysis :
1. Examine the graph. Select the portion of the graph in which the plot appears linear
and perform a linear fit.

2. What information about the motion of the cart is provided by the slope of the graph?
How do the units confirm your answer?

- The slope tells about the velocity of the motion of the cart.
In this case, the units confirm that the cart moves 0.8548metre per second.

3. View the second position-time graph with Logger Lite. Explain how you can tell, by
looking at the graph alone, how the velocity of the cart compares to that in the first
run.

-
By looking at the graph alone, I can tell that the cart in the first graph has more
velocity because the cart in the first graph takes only about 2 seconds to reach the
end point, but the cart in the second graph takes about 3 seconds.

4. Repeat Step 1 and determine the slope of the linear region of the second graph.
Compare the values of the slopes of the first two graphs.

- The cart in the second graph is faster the cart in the first graph.
-The first graph has more slope than the second graph.

5. View the third position-time graph with Logger Lite. Repeat Step 1 for the third graph.

6. What is the significance of the sign of the slope of the third graph?

-The significance of the sign of the slope in the third graph is that the
velocity in every second is all negative.
