This document provides instructions for performing a one-way ANOVA in Excel 2011 for Mac users. It outlines 10 steps: 1) copy and paste data into a new sheet with a continuous variable and categorical grouping variable, 2) sort by category, 3) title columns by category, 4) copy data into adjacent columns by category, 5) remove any null cells, 6) open StatPlus and select one-way ANOVA, 7) select variables in Excel, 8) highlight category columns in StatPlus with labels in first row checked, 9) click OK to view output with group means, variances, counts, and ANOVA table with F-statistic and p-value, 10) interpret p-value to reject or fail to reject

1. Copy and paste a continuous variable and a categorical variable (containing the groups you want to compare) into a new sheet. 2. Go to Data ! Sort and sort by the categorical variable. 3. Title a new column with the first category name and copy all of the continuous data from that category into it. 4. Copy the data from each of the other categories into the adjacent columns. 5. Look for any missing data and remove any null cells. 6. Open StatPlus and go to Statistics ! Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) ! One-Way ANOVA (simple) 7. Click the box to the right of the Variables field, which will take you back to Excel. 8. Highlight the category columns and go back to StatPlus. Since the columns included titles, keep the Labels in first row box checked. 9. Hit OK and the output will pop up in a new window. It contains the means, variances, and counts for each group, along with a complete ANOVA table (including the F-statistic and p-value). 10. If the p-value were less than 0.05, you would reject the null hypothesis that the means of all categories are equal. If the p-value were greater than 0.05, then you would fail to reject.
