Finding Missing Data

1. Copy all variable names from the variable view to the excel sheet.

1.1. Paste the data and then select the copied data and press CTRL+T
1.2. Copy the names/data below the column 1
1.3. Go to another cell and press right key and choose the “transpose” in paste options.
1.4. After pasting the data, copy it again and paste into a new excel sheet on the top.

2. Copy all data from the data view to the excel sheet.

2.1. Paste the data below the variable copied in new excel sheet.

3. In the top line in last column write “=countblank(and select the column/specify range)”
and press enter

4. Go to column witten countbank and move the cursor to the down right corner and double
click when you see +

5. After that Sort the column from largest to smallest.


6. Delete the columns in SPSS data sheet if the data is missing in a large quantity in any ID.

Replacing Missing Data


1. Go to Analyze and Click Descriptive Statistics and then click Frequencies.
2. Select all Variables.
3. Copy the first table in results named “Frequencies” to the excel sheet.
4. Find the variable in which still data is missing.
5. Go to Transform in SPSS menu bar.
6. Click on Replcaing Missing Values.
7. Select the Items in which data is missing.
8. Replace the Likert items with nearest median.
9. Replace Demographics with Mean.

Outliers
These are the responses given by the respondents that are different from other. Outliers always
can exist in Open Ended Questions.
1. Go to Graphs
2. Legacy Dialog Box
3. Box Plot
4. Click Simple
5. Sumaries of Separate variables
6. Drag the items you want to test in the first box and ID in second box
7. Click OK.
8. Locate the outliers in Data sheet and replace with Mean

Unengaged Responses
The responses that are given by respondents unintentionally. They just select the answers with
reading the questions.
