The Industry Standard in IT Infrastructure Monitoring

Purpose
This document is intended to outline the steps required to manually install Nagios XI, along with its prerequisites and subcomponents.
Target Audience
This document is intended for use by Nagios Authorized Resellers and other Nagios artners who wish to install Nagios XI on physical
ser!ers, operating systems and distributions other than those pro!ided as our official offerings.
Platform Support
As of the time of writing, Nagios "nterprises is only able to officially pro!ide support for installing Nagios XI on the following #inu$

If you disco!er bugs or ha!e fi$es for installing Nagios XI on other platforms, please let us 3now. 4e will do our best to incorporate
your impro!ements to e$pand support for additional platforms in future Nagios XI releases, which will ma3e future installation processes
smoother for you and your clients.
Installation Prerequisites
Important: Nagios "nterprises highly recommends and will only support installing Nagios XI on a newly installed, 5clean6 system .a
bare minimal install with nothing else installed or configured/.
Attempting to install Nagios XI on a pre,e$isting system with other applications already installed can cause the Nagios XI installation
process to fail, critical system components and settings .e.g. database ser!ers/ to be modified in a way that negati!ely affects other
applications, and pre!iously installed applications to be automatically upgraded or removed. 4hile installing XI on a system with other
applications is possible, it is not recommended due to the possible interactions and comple$ity of multiple components that are required
for Nagios XI to function. If you choose to ignore these warnings, you do so at your own ris3.
Internet access is required for installation and upgrades7
Downloading the Latest Release
8a3e sure to download the Nagios XI installation pac3age to the 9tmp directory of the ser!er on which you wish to install it, as shown in
the following commands%
cd /tmp
To download the latest stable release, use the following command%
wget http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagiosxi/xi-latest.tar.gz

Installing "I :rom The Installation Archi<e
To get started with the installation of Nagios XI you must first e$pand the installation archi!e.
If you are installing the latest stable release, use the following command .Adapt as appropriate if you downloaded a different file./%
tar xzf xi-latest.tar.gz
Installation Steps
To get started, change to the newly created nagios$i subdirectory to get started with the installation%
cd /tmp/nagiosxi
!ote: >o not install Nagios XI from a directory that does not allow other users to ha!e read9e$ecute permissions to the installation files.

Run the wrapper script%
./fullinstall
This will automatically ta3e care of a number of things for you, including
8odifying the yum configuration and installing prerequisite pac3ages
0reating required uses and groups
Initializing ostgre2?# and 8y2?# databases, and set the 8y2?# root password to @nagios$i@
8odifying sudoers and iptables to allow certain commands and traffic
Installing bac3up scripts for the databases
AdAusting & settings and installing the 2ourceBuardian & loaders for encrypted files
0ompiling and installing !arious components, including Nagios 0ore, the plugins, N>1Ctils, N, webinAect, etc.
Installing the Nagios XI scripts and & files in 9usr9local9nagios$i
Installing cron Aobs for the root and nagios users
2etting appropriate ser!ices to start in runle!els * and ' and starting them now
Importing base obAect definitions .templates, commands, etc./ into Nagios?# for use with Nagios 0ore
Installing a welcome page in the root webser!er directory 9!ar9www9html
4atch for error messages when running this command, as some installation scripts may fail if system requirements are missing, or
operating system command names or application paths differ from those currently supported.

If the installation commands completed successfully, you should now ha!e a fully functioning Nagios XI system7
