Week 1: Elements of Art (Examples/definitions/assignment)
I can identify and explain the Elements of Art. I can use magazines to give examples of the elements of art used in photos.
Week 2: Principles of Composition (Examples, definitions/assignment)
I can name and identify the six principles of composition I can create a notebook that shows examples of each principle of composition with magazine pictures.
I can observe a demonstration on contour drawing I can create three, 15 to 20 minute contour drawings. I can create a complete composition using think/thin line quality and a simple shaded Value Pattern.
I can understand the difference between shapes and forms. I can understand the Five Qualities of Proper Shading. I can draw and shade basic forms. I can draw and shade a complex form.
Week 5: Color Chart (Student hand-out/work assignment)
I can identify the primary triad. I can mix and identify the secondary triad and the tertiary colors. I can make a color wheel and separate warm and cool colors.
I can identify and use different types of line designs such as straight, wavy, curved, interrupted, and concentric line. I can create a composition with any combination of line types. I can paint event, flat areas using tempera paints. I can use at least one of every color in the chromatic scale.
Week 7: Value Painting (PowerPoint/major project)
I can create a linear composition with a focal point, balance, and rhythm. I can identify different letter forms such as Gothic, Roman, and Script. I can create a monochromatic scheme and mix all colors and label them. I can create a value pattern using nine values in a value scale. I can create a composition with clean smooth edges and attention to detail.
Week 8: Portfolio
I can create a portfolio using artwork designed in ART I. I can compose an artist statement to help viewers better understand my art.
