IMMOBILISER AND PLIP EXPLANATION
-n a &ehicle with IR system the immobili/er (decoder) and remote"key (#$#) are dependant o! each other (e4ept later IR
systems with KRS). This means that the remote in addition to controllin( doors it also &eri!ies the key and opens the
immobili/er to allow the &ehicle to start.
-n a &ehicle with IR or RF system 6t0 KRS7 the remote"key (#$#) and immobili/er are independent systems where the
immobili/er is controlled by a small Transponder +hip inside the key head and an antenna rin( around the i(nition that
checks the Transponder +hip when the key is in the i(nition and turned on. The IR &( RF part is only !or remote
controllin( the doors wich means that synchroni/ed keys (workin( #$#) will not sol&e any non startin( problems due to
blocked immobiliser. The battery inside the key only a!!ects the #$# !unction as the KRS is not dependant o! batteries.
The KRS type (on IR keys) can be reco(ni/ed by openin( the #$# and the Transponder +hip is seen as a square black
unit separate !rom the electronic printboard (#$# electronics).

There are ; types o! code communication (coded remote si(nal) between #$# and the &ehicle% communicatin( with
F<E0 +-0E (early IR) and R-$$,9 +-0E (IR and RF). -n a R-$$,9 +-0E system the transmitted code is
chan(ed each time the #$# button is pressed to pre&ent ille(al duplication o! the code !or the!t purposes% this howe&er
means that the #$# and RE+EVER mi(ht (et out o! synch i! the #$# is pressed more than =>>> times without bein(
within the ran(e o! the RE+EVER. Then a resynchronisin( procedure is required to (et them to communicate correct
a(ain. -n systems with R-$$,9 +-0E there is a ma4imum o! ; #$# keys pro(rammed as the system only can handle
; #$#*. 7 F<E0 +-0E is ne&er chan(ed durin( the li!etime o! the immobiliser system.
.hen the system is acti&e (armed) and car is parked the ??-$E0 !lashes slowly to indicate that the car is protected.
.hen openin( the car by IR remote "or insertin( an IR or RF key with KRS and turnin( i(n -, "the ??-$E0 illuminates
constant !or @ seconds and then (oes out when key is reco(ni/ed and startin( o! the car is allowed.
! the n2ecton .arnin( $i(ht is lit !or @ seconds !ollowin( that ??-$E0 !lashes rapidly the key is not
accepted3reco(ni/ed "or there is a problem with some other decoder components or their wirin( "and startin( is blocked.
,ote' ! you lea&e the key in the i(nition% the immobili/er will be auto"acti&ated a!ter a whileA and on IR systems without
KRS you will ha&e to take out the key and lock and reopen the car usin( the #$# to deacti&ate the immobili/er a(ain.
-n some models it is required to enter the B di(it security code to unlock the immobili/er to start the car when a problem
occurred "or when resyncronisin( #$#(*). *ome &ehicles ha&e this code supplied with the car on a codecard% i! not the
code in most cases can be obtained !rom the Renault dealers network. .hen enterin( this code the immobili/er will allow
the car to start i! there is a problem with the immobili/er (!aulty key% some !aulty components). -n some systems
immobiliser will remain disabled until battery is disconnected (!irst systems) while most models require the security code
to be entered each timeA you need to start the car until the immobili/er system is repaired.

The E+5 or +oded *olenoid can in most cases be reset (blanked) with some special tools% these tools are not part o!
the dealers network tools and there!ore this ser&ice is only o!!ered !rom sertain specialists.
! the E+5 or +oded *olenoid security code is known these parts can howe&er under sertain sircumstanses be decoded
with only a spesi!ic procedure and a !orei(n 0E+-0ER. This allows the dealers to test some components and clear
them a(ain i! they are to be returned.
7lso note that on the Espace CE with 1 unit% the RF recie&er !or the #$# is located in the di(ital instrument cluster. -n
these &ehicles the milea(e is retained in 1-T6 the instrument cluster 7,0 the 1 unit.

This is either !ound on a sticker or is printed on the printboard. This is important when determinatin( the immobiliser type
