Lok Adalats Received statutory status under legal services authorities Act 1987. The Act provides that State or District authorities may organise Lok Adalats at convenient places. Adalats consists of Judicial officers of the area and such other officers who possess the special qualification required. Adalats can determine and arrive at compromise or settlements between the parties to a dispute in respect of any matter falling within civil, criminal or revenue courts or Tribunals. The Award of Lok Adalat can be enforced in law.
