The GPS navigation s ys te m fre e s you from the burde n of re ading maps or looking
for road s igns . It will guide you to any de s tination re corde d on your map CD/DVD.
The radio, with its s upe rb re ce ption quality, joins the cas s e tte and CD playe rs in
providing optimal s ound to s atis fy e ve ry tas te while s e rving up e nte rtainme nt to
make e ve ry trip s e e m s hort.
The compute r calculate s vital ope rating data including ave rage fue l cons umption,
cruis ing range on the re maining fue l and the e s timate d time of arrival. It provide s
additional s afe ty be fore driving for e xample , with e ntry of a code numbe r for the
e ngine immobilize r and during driving for e xample , with an acous tic warning
tone s o that you do not drive fas te r than you inte nd to.

The onboard compute r inte grate s an
e xte ns ive range of functions . Se le ct the
top me nu (MENU) for a lis t of the
various functions , re fe r to page 12.

Control concept

Resetting history

If you s witch on the onboard compute r
again or s e le ct the corre s ponding func-
tion again unde r "MENU", you will auto-
matically e nte r the me nu le ve l pre vi-
ous ly us e d.
To inte rrupt this function to re turn to the
initial me nu le ve l:
Brie fly pre s s twice in a row.

Selecting return symbol

To re turn to a pre vious me nu or func-
tion, proce e d as follows :
Se le ct .
As de s cribe d in the s e ction on
"Se le cting functions ", it is als o pos s ible
to us e the right-hand rotary button to
highlight the "Re turn" s ymbol and the n
s e le ct it by pre s s ing.

Scrolling forward and back

Whe n one of the above s ymbols
appe ars on the s cre e n, this indicate s
that furthe r e ntrie s are available for
vie wing in the curre nt lis t.
As de s cribe d in the "Se le cting func-
tions " s e ction, you can als o highlight
this s ymbol with the right-hand rotary
button be fore proce e ding to confirm
your e ntry by pre s s s ing the button.

s ys te m has acce s s to the late s t high-
way ne twork information, always load
the mos t re ce nt CD/DVD ve rs ion of the
digital road map. As is the cas e with
conve ntional road maps , the map CDs /
DVDs are s ubje ct to pe riodic update s to
e ns ure that the y re fle ct the late s t infor-
mation and s urve ys .
The DVD will be available at a late r
time and will provide additional
fe ature s s uch as large r map s cale s .

Changing the map CD/DVD

Map CDs /DVDs contain road maps
cove ring one or more countrie s or
re gions . Whe n you drive your BMW, the
navigation s ys te m will ale rt you whe n
you are le aving the are a s tore d on the
map CD/DVD that is curre ntly loade d.
You s hould re s pond by changing the
map CD/DVD in the navigation com-
pute r.
Only map CDs of ve rs ion
2001-1 or highe r can be us e d.
