Welcome!

I am so
excited to start a
new school year. I
cant wait to get to
know everyone and
share all the fun
things we are going
to learn this year.

Please help you
child get back into
the school year
routine: help them
check their
assignment sheet
nightly, get a good
nights sleep, and
have a good
breakfast!

Readers Workshop will
be starting as soon as we
finish MAP testing. We
will learn new strategies,
close reading techniques
and text elements for
non-fiction.
We will be starting
Writers Workshop this
year. Students will be
drafting, editing and
publishing their own
work and keeping
journals and writing
portfolios.
Review Math facts:
Reviewing basic
addition, subtraction,
multiplication and
division facts at home
will help students recall
them faster!

Out first week in third grade is going great! We are spending time learning
routines, reviewing math and reading skills, and taking beginning of the
year assessments. These assessments help me as a teacher to know just
where your student is academically. That will help me place them at the
just right reading level and in just right math groups.

Rocket math: We will be using Rocket Math to help students master
math facts this. For those of you whom arent familiar with this program,
the students take a timed one minute fact assessment every day. They
work through levels A to Z for each operation: addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division. I start everyone with addition/subtraction
which most third graders finish in the first six weeks. Then things usually
slow down as we all master multiplication. Students who master math
facts to automatic recall have an easier time with more complicated math
operations. Please practice at home!

Star Student: We will be starting Star Student next week. Watch for the
yellow folder to come home when it is your childs turn!

Reminders:
*Make sure you have shoes for P.E.
*Turn in summer math packets!
*Have your assignment sheets signed every night
*Read, Read, Read!
