KEY CONCEPTS
OUTLINES
One-Way Analysis of Variance
Two-Way Analysis of Variance
Review Questions
ONE-WAY ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE
Analysis of variance ANOVA ~ provides a test to
determine whether to accept or reject the hypothesis that
all of the group means are equal

COMPARING MEANS
Excel does not provide a function to test pair wise
pairwise mean differences, but one has been provided
for you with StatPlus
Bonferroni procedure ~ a conservative method for
calculating the probabilities

COMPARING MEANS WITH A BOXPLOT
The boxplot is also very useful for comparing the
distribution of hotel the product prices among the
different cities
It shows the broad outline of the distributions and displays
the medians

ONE-WAY ANOVA & REGRESSION
Analysis of variance ~ a special form of regression
To perform the analysis of variance using regression
modeling you can create indicator variables for the data
Indicator variables take on values of either 1 or 0
The analysis of variance table produced by the regression
is equivalent to the ANOVA table

TWO-WAY ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE
Two-way analysis of variance compares several groups
corresponding to two factors
For examples
The assumptions for two-way ANOVA are essentially the
same as those for one-way ANOVA
The two-way ANOVA assumes independence, constant
variance, and normality just as the one-way ANOVA (and
regression)
