IMPORTANCE OF LINEAR ALGEBRA
Linear Algebra deals with the study of vectors, vector spaces
and linear equations.
Linear algebra today has been extended to consider n-
dimensional space. Although it is very difficult to visualize
vectors in n-space, such n-dimensional vectors are extremely
useful in representing data. One can easily summarize and
manipulate data efficiently in this framework, when data are
ordered as a list of n components.
In linear algebra one studies sets of linear equations and
their transformation properties. It is possible to consider the
analysis of rotations in space, selected curve fitting
techniques, differential equation solutions, as well as many
other problems in science and engineering using techniques
of linear algebra.
Two tools are extensively used in linear algebra.
They are :
(1)The Matrix (2)The Determinant.
Solution to a vector matrix model equation is regarded as
one of the most important of central problems of linear
algebra.,
Linear algebra provides you understanding of properties of
physical systems, for e.g., finding the eigenvalues or "natural
frequencies" of systems.
Linear algebra provides the background theory for
development of solution methods to problems governed by
PDEs, for e.g. finite differences, finite elements, etc.
The results of linear algebra have found application in such
diverse fields as optics, quantum mechanics, display
addressing, electric circuits, cryptography, computer
graphics, economics, linear programming, solution of
systems of differential equations, etc. The manipulation of
matrices and determinants plays a central role in all
applications of linear algebra.
