Chief Papania,

Over the last several weeks, our community has experienced tremendous loss with the murders
of Janaya Thompson and Lamont Hayes. These incidents occurred closely together and have
caused us all to pay attention to our families and neighbors safety. These incidents remind us
that we live in neighborhoods composed of neighbors and, as such, we need to know and help
our neighbors.

With todays announcement of the arrests made in Mr. Hayes murder, your department now has
arrested suspects in both cases. Understanding that there remains much work for your team in
regards to these cases; I want to thank you on behalf of our community for the expeditious and
professional manner that your officers have handled these cases and themselves during the
searches, investigations, and arrests.

As we mourn these losses, we are comforted by the protection and service your officers provide
us. Thank you for your leadership.
