Which wearable will be the next big thing

A slew of new wearables are slated to hit shelves within the next fe
w months -- everything from the Samsung Simband health tracker to t
he OMsignal smart shirt to the Dash wireless earbuds.
In the nicky world of wearables! some of the "roducts will "lease cro
wds while others will fade into obscurity. #redictive analytics "latform
$irst Insight released the results of a survey on %ednesday that looke
d at which wearables customers might "refer. &he survey entailed test
ing '( u"coming wearables with more than )(* "eo"le in +une.
&he to" choice was the ,abu -a.er! a combined smartwatch and tne
ss band. /oming in second was a 0ickstarter-backed tiny cli"-on tnes
s tracker! the 1occia. And third "lace was a tie between the Acer 2i3ui
d 2ea" tness band and a heartbeat band! the ,4MI from 5ionym 6see

%hy did these wearables beat out others in the survey8 $irst Insight b
elieves it has a lot to do with "ricing -- all of these to" "icks are ex"ect
ed to fall within a sweet s"ot "rice range of below 9'**. %hile design
and function are im"ortant! says the rm! highly "riced items may hav
e a hard time moving from a niche to mainstream market.
:It;s a bit counterintuitive that value is a more critical factor than desi
gn! and "rice is a ma<or com"onent of the value of a "roduct!: $irst In
sight /MO +im Shea said in a statement emailed to /,=&. :Designers
tend to think more about making something "eo"le will love instead of
thinking about the "rice! but the value 3uotient -- the combination of "
rice and features -- is a better "redictor of whether or not a "roduct w
ill sell.:
&ake &he Dash earbuds -- while "eo"le surveyed raved about the devic
e;s ca"abilities and gave it the most "ositive feedback of any device te
sted! on average consumers are willing to "ay only half of the earbud
s; 9>?? "rice tag.
Of all of the ty"es of wearables tested! tness bands scored the highes
t. $irst Insight believes this is because of their lower "ricing! which ty
"ically ranges from 9@( to 9'>(. Other conclusions from the re"ort sh
ow that women will "ay more for wearables but "refer smaller and sle
eker devices.
%hile still a nascent industry! the wearables market has ex"loded over
the "ast cou"le of years. $inancial consultancy Deloitte "redicts that '
* million units will sell this year! generating a total of 9) billion. And!
by >*'A! research rm +uni"er -esearch believes! that gure will hit 9
'? billion.
$or the survey! $irst Insight gave "artici"ants wearables that were un
branded! and it used a uni3ue algorithm to "redict a score of ' to '* b
ased on "artici"ants; answers. &en was the best score! forecasting a s
ales success! and one was the lowest! "redicting a Bo". Any "roduct w
ith a score less than six will most likely not do well! says $irst Insight
