EVEN IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AAU
BASKETBALL
Not only college students get this attention
The Coaches is how they get the attention though
I do this because I love the game and I love watching you guys play and
develop as young men
You never know what is going on behind the scenes
CHRIS WEBBER
Played basketball for Michigan University
He was a part of the Fab Five
(Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, Ray Jackson, Juwan
Howard)
Met a guy by the name of Ed Martin
He was an agent who wanted to represent Chris
Webber so bad that he gave Chris up to
$100,000 in not only cash but material things and all
HOW IS ILLEGAL RECRUITING SEEN
BY OTHERS
It is very commonly seen but how do others feel
about the situation
A lot of coaches dislike it very much
UNFAIR

UNFAIR
Dont truly know how the rules actually are
Sometimes the student athletes dont even have a
clue that it is even going on.

GAMECOCK SCANDAL

Gamecock Scandal
CALIPARI ALLEGATIONS.
University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari is taking his
third team to the Final Four in the past 15 years.
Calipari cheated the first two times.
Both of Caliparis previous Final Four appearances, with
UMass in 1996 and Memphis in 2008, had to be taken away
because of many violations with recruits, including cash
payments.

UCONN FRAUD COACH
CALHOUN

Calhoun was suspended by the NCAA for the first three
games of next season after being found guilty of
committing several recruiting violations, is under scrutiny
once again after former recruit Nate Miles told the New York
Times that Calhoun was fully aware of illegal payments
being made to Miles by a UConn booster and that he had
received help on standardized tests.
UConn had their NCAA tournament appearance vacated
in 1996 after it was revealed that a player agent had given
several gifts to UConn players. That was under Calhouns
watch as well.

SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY SCANDAL
Between 1974 and 1985, the NCAA slapped SMU with probation five times
for many offenses.

former Mustangs player built a slush fund from which the school paid players.
Mustangs linebacker David Stanley received $25,000 to sign in 1983, while
others received monthly stipends of as much as $725.
Over $47,000 in cash changed hands during the 1985-86 academic year,
and the athletic department knew about all of it.

HIGH SCHOOL RECRUITING
High school recruiting happens more often
due to the fact of the immaturity of kids.
They see dollar signs and automatically
consider taking money
They just want to make it and not have the
knowledge of the NCAA clearing house.
ALL COACHES DONT ILLEGALLY
RECRUIT
He told me his team could win a state championship if he they had an
athletic big guy. He was looking, he said, for a poor kid with a single mom
who might be persuaded to move. He had a wealthy booster who could
hook the mom up with a job and a place to live. Did I know anyone who fit
the bill?
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
My coach transferred schools so did I
It was against FHSAA rules for an athlete to follow a coach
We started to have a winning season leaving people guessing.
It was either my coach didnt coach or I sit out a year
My coach didnt coach that year and I remained eligible.
SHOULD RECRUITS BE PAID FOR
ATHLETIC TALENT?
This question is asked a lot throughout college athletics
Recruits bring money to the school and publicity
On the other hand they give you an education to set you up for life along
with free living

CAM NEWTON
Cam Newton's father auction him off for the
most money
Cameron Newton and his church pastor
father, who stands accused of trying to
auction his son off to the highest bidder as he
was being recruited. Thursday brought yet
another allegation, this one that the elder
Newton wanted to be paid in $50,000,
$50,000 and $80,000 chunks if his son went to
Mississippi State.

CONCLUSION
Illegal recruiting isnt right
It persuades the minds of young ones
Paying athletes is still not acceptable
Athletes get equal benefits
