Leadership Matrix Job Aid

The Leadership Matrix describes leaders in


terms of effective leadership behaviors (+ or -)
and their ability to achieve key business results
(+ or -). A leader in Quadrant 1 (Q1) is not
achieving satisfactory results or demonstrating
effective leadership behaviors. By contrast,
the Q4 leader consistently produces desired
business results and demonstrates leadership
behaviors that energize and motivate
employees.

The Leadership Matrix can be used to assess and guide the performance of
leaders. How would you assess your performance? Circle the number that
represents the best answer for each question below.

Leadership Matrix on the left. Circle
your Behavior Score on the x-axis
(bottom) and Results Score on the y-
axis (left side) of the Leadership
Matrix. Next, following the lines on
the Leadership Matrix, draw an X at
the point where the Behavior and
Results scores intersect. The X
represents a rough estimate of your
current leadership skills.


Always remember, leadership is a skill that can be measured, and this job aid
can serve as a good rough-and-ready tool. Use it to measure your own
performanceand, consider having your boss and employees assess your
performance.
