Introduction
&n this game, you are in charge of the prouct introuction of two moels of
mobile phones. You will manage the esign, forecast the eman, an choose
the prouction scheule for the two moels o!er four years. Hopefully, your
strategy for managing the supply chain will lea to successful commerciali%ation
of the new proucts.
.ach year you will go through four rooms/ the esign room, the forecasting room,
the prouction room, an the boar room. Since the perio for the simulation is
four years, you will !isit each room four times.
0t the beginning of the game, you will be as(e to enter a team name that will be
use to ientify your group uring the iscussion at the en of this game.
0s you play the e2ercise, we strongly recommen that you ta(e notes on why
you mae certain ecisions an what results you woul e2pect. This will allow
you to respon to 3uestions the boar members may as( about your choices.
Design Room
0t the beginning of each year, you will enter the esign room. 4hile the main
esign for each moel has been complete, you ha!e the uty each year to
select among four options an etermine the final configuration of the two
moels.
Clic( on )Meet the Team* to get an auio1!isual introuction to four of the
si2 members of your forecasting team.
Clic( on ).nter 'esign #oom* to procee into the esign room.
The options that you can choose from in the first year, for instance, are 40P 5a
wireless application protocol6, a color isplay, a stylish loo(, an infrare
capabilities. .ach year, two of the four options remain the same from the
pre!ious year while two options are ifferent.

choosing an option5s6, you will notice that the eman an profit per unit
ata on the right sie changes. &t is a!isable to listen to the forecasters7

There are three sets of ata that you shoul pay attention to. The first set,
locate at the top, is the ).stimate Moel 'eman 4ithout ,ptions.* The
numbers in this set o not change when you select options9 howe!er, the
estimates o change from one year to the ne2t.
The secon set of ata, locate at the mile, is the ).stimate &mpact of
Selecte ,ptions on 'eman.* ,n the left1half you see estimates on eman
impact. ,n the right1half you are able to !iew estimates on the actual eman
5not eman impact6 in graphical form for both moels.
To see the graph of eman estimates for Moel 0, for instance, clic( on

The thir set of ata, locate at the bottom, is the ).stimate &mpact of Selecte
,ptions on Per1unit Profit.* &n blac( numbers, to the left, you see the price, cost,
an profit for the base moels. &n the center column you see the profit impact per
unit in re numbers, which change base on the options you select. To the right
you see the price, cost, an profit for the moels with the options you select.
,nce you etermine the combination of options you want, clic( on )Submit

Forecasting Room
+e2t, you will enter the forecasting room, where you will ma(e a preiction of
what you thin( eman for the two cell phone lines will be for the year.
Clic( on ).nter -orecast #oom* to see the forecast room.
0t the top of the forecasting room, you see unit price, cost, profit, mar(own an
holing costs for each moel. &n the mile are your forecasters7 ini!iual
estimates of monthly eman, as well as the consensus, mean, an stanar
e!iation for each moel. You ha!e all the information you nee to ma(e the best
preiction of eman.
Clic( into the bo2 for Moel 0, an enter in the numerical !alue for your
eman estimate for Moel 0. #epeat the process for Moel B. Then clic(

+e2t, you will enter the prouction room. ,f the four rooms of the simulation, this
one is most important.

Clic( on )Tal( to Procurement* to !iew an auio1!isual presentation by
your procurement manager, Carey Holer. He will gi!e you important
information on unit prouction costs, lea1time, setup costs, an
prouction capacity for each of four suppliers, as well as a!ice on how to
etermine the best combination of suppliers.
Clic( on ).nter Prouction #oom* to procee.
You see your potential suppliers organi%e into four rows9 the rows are
subi!ie into :; months. To the right of each supplier row is information on
lea1time, capacity, setup costs, an unit prouction costs. -irst, you ecie what
suppliers you want to use. You can sprea your prouction o!er any combination
of four suppliers.
Clic( on the chec( bo2 ne2t to the supplier7s name. This will pop up a
winow so that you can gi!e !ariables to the procurement officer. To enter
how many Moel 0 units you want prouce through that supplier, clic(
the bo2 for Moel 0 an enter in the numerical !alue. #epeat the same
process for Moel B. Pay attention to the capacity. Clic( )+e2t* to procee.
Secon, you ecie in what month to start prouction.
Clic( on the month you want to start prouction. <eep in min that the
eman for your proucts oes not start until May. Pay attention to the
lea1time. Clic( )+e2t* to procee. You will clic( )+e2t* one more time to
close the pop up winow an return to the prouction room.
#epeat the process if you want to a more suppliers. You can change
your orer at any time by selecting the )Change* button ne2t to the
supplier name. ,nce you ha!e etermine the right combination of
suppliers, clic( on )0!ance ,ne Month* at the !ery bottom of the room.
Your procurement officer will ma(e a final chec( with you.
Clic( on )0!ance ,ne Month* to procee to the ne2t month.
0s you progress in the prouction room month1by1month, you notice eman
changes. Pop1up winows appear as you continue to clic( )0!ance ,ne Month*
to present you with an opportunity to hol a traeshow conference an with news
healines inicating the irection eman will ta(e for the following months.
To close an e!ent pop up winow, continue to clic( )+e2t* until the winow
isappears.
You can respon to changes in eman an in!entory by changing the

each moel, as well as total gross margins.
Clic( on ).nter Boar #oom* to procee to the auio1!isual presentation
by the boar members.
There are fi!e members of the boar, an each member e!aluates your wor(
base on some aspect of your performance. Some members as( you 3uestions,
an each boar member ecies whether to gi!e you a !ote of confience for
your performance. ,nly your initial answer to a boar member7s 3uestion will be
recore in the results shown to your instructor.

4hat will happen to my results=
The results of each year are sa!e at the en of the year, after the
boar of irectors has e!aluate you. &f you want to 3uit the
application, you will ha!e the choice to begin where you left off
when you come bac( or start from the beginning. Howe!er, if you
ha!e alreay complete a year, your scores for that year will
alreay be recore. ,nly the first scores you obtain for each year
are recore, no matter how often you play through the years.
4hat if the screen free%es or 3uits une2pectely in the mile of the
application=
Close all browser winows, close all other applications, clear your
cache. See abo!e, your scores are recore after the boar room
session for each year. &f you ha!e complete a year, your scores
are alreay recore, an you can mo!e on to the ne2t year. &f you
are in the mile of a year, you shoul replay the first part of that
year with the numbers that you want to be your final scores.
How are my scores reporte=
Scores are automatically recore in the atabase an will be
retrie!e by your instructor.

You can go bac( to all screens that you ha!e been to before. To
mo!e between years, simply clic( on the year that you wish to see
on the scorecars in the bottom1left corner. You cannot see years
an screens that you ha!e not wal(e through.
