Family containing about 130 genera (e.g. Guatteria
and Annona) and 2300 species (e.g. muricata and
montana)

Contains specific class of compounds called
acetogenins

Used in treatment of tumours in cancer patients as
well as pesticides

JUSTIFICATION
To isolate new acetogenins for further uses.
Acetogenins have been shown to be beneficial in
terms of their bioactivity.
They are currently being used as natural pesticides
