Building Vocabulary

General Instructions

1. Vocabulary Lists (approximately 10 words) will be available weekly, usually
Monday but sometimes Tuesday when there is a holiday.
2. Vocabulary Tests will be weekly, usually Friday, but sometimes Thursday when
there is a holiday. Students will have an opportunity to collect a total of four (4)
points from each test:
a. One (1) point: the student will write (in class exercise) two well-
constructed, meaningful sentences using two different vocabulary words
from that weeks vocabulary list.
b. Two (2) points: the student will write (in class exercise) one or more well-
constructed, meaningful paragraphs using all words from that weeks
vocabulary list (approximately 10 words).
c. One (1) point: one team-mate will review, correct, and edit, as necessary
(in class exercise), another students work. The team-mate will write
his/her name on the sheet, and make at least the following comments to
help the student:
i. One glow: something the team-mate did excellently, and should be
proud of, something that makes him/her glow with pride.
ii. One grow: something the team-mate needs help with, an item that
the team-mate should take the time to learn from and grow.
iii. One know i.e., Student reflection: the team-mate will discuss the
glows and grows with the student, and pass the graded paper
back to the student who will now know about these glows and
grows by initialing those comments.
