Maths Challenge

Deck 1
Decking lengths are 4meters long and
9centimeters wide.
How many 4metre lengths of decking will we
need for a deck; 4metres long by 1 meter
wide? (Dont allow for a gap between deck
lengths)

What is the total amount of decking in meters?
Write the maths equations you used to work
it out?

Deck 2
How many 4meter lengths of 90mm decking will I
need to build a deck 6meters long by 2meters
wide? Write the equation you used.

Deck 3
What is the total amount of decking (in meters)
We will need for a deck 5and 1 quarter meters
long by 3 and 1half a meter wide?

Write an algebraic equation for finding out how
much decking you need using L for length and W
for width.
Deck Challenge 2

The top layer of decking sits on joists.
The joists are spaced every 450mm and also
along the edge.
The decking timber is nailed with 2 nails in every
joist

1. How many meters of joist timber will you
need for each of the three decks?(show the
equations you used)
2. How many nails will you need for each
deck?(show the equation you used)
3. Write an algebraic equation for finding how
much joist timber you need for any deck.
4. Write an algebraic equation for finding how
many nails you need for any deck.
