Hi all, one of the 12's I recently got has a low memory.
The Garmin web site FAQ
adises that the AA batteries sho!ld always be left in the !nit in order to "ee# the lithi!m memory battery charged. They go on to say that if it becomes discharged, to #!t fresh AA's in for $ days or so. This sho!ld correct matters % if not it's o& to the serice agent. 'ooo, not being able to hel# myself, tac"led my own 12 with a #oc"et "nife and a few min!tes later had it all o#en with no damage. The case is not #lastic welded b!t sim#ly sealed together with a ty#e of silicone. It wo!ld be (!ite a sim#le matter to re#lace the battery for anyone handy with a )ne ti# soldering iron and common sense. *emoing the r!bber stri# o& the bac" is no hel#. It+s ,!st a matter of scra#ing the silicone o!t of the ,oint ga# and then #rising it a#art % b!t be caref!l not to #!t nic"s in the ,oint edges. They won+t do any harm, they ,!st loo" grotty. The memory battery is a -anasonic ./1220. That+s their abbreiation for .anadi!m /ithi!m 12mm diameter 2.2mm thic" I g!ess. I #l!g the !nit into 12 and let it r!n in sim mode for a few ho!rs to recharge the internal batt. Garmin recommends storing the !nit with fresh batts to "ee# the internal batt from discharging.
