Assignment 1-1: Analyze population by race in the top 10 U.S.

States:
TJ Ersfeld

It appears that the 10 most populous states in the US border water, either lakes or ocean. There is
no correlation with the land mass and population; however, the three largest states by area are
within the top ten in highest population. The top 5 largest cities in the US also occur within the
top 10 most populous states. Finally, eighty percent (8/10) of the most populous states in the U.S.
occur east of the Mississippi river although this may change in the future with more and more
people migrating westward.
There is no strong correlation for minorities living in the 10 most populous states. It does appear
that a high percentage of Asian Americans live within populous states while a low percentage of
American Indians live within the 10 most populous states.
