Assignment:
T.J. Ersfeld
Q1:
How
many
classes
are
created
in
the
output?
There
are
9
classes
created
in
the
output.
Q2:
What
are
the
definitions
of
minimum
class
size
and
sample
interval?
Minimum
class
size:
The
minimum
number
of
cells
in
a
valid
class
Sample
interval:
The
interval
used
for
sampling
Q3:
What
is
the
recommended
minimum
class
size?
20
Q4:
How
many
bands
are
considered
when
running
the
Iso
Cluster
Unsupervised
classification
method?
There
are
5
bands
or
classes.
Q5:
Provide
a
list
of
land
cover
types
assigned
to
the
isocluster10.img
file.
Q6:
Briefly
summarize
observations
discovered
when
assigning
the
spectral
classes
to
the
information
classes.
There
appeared
to
be
two
different
colors
that
represented
roofs
of
buildings.
One
hypothesis
is
that
white
roofs
were
classified
as
brown-green,
while
darker
colored
roofs
were
classified
as
a
purple-blue
color.
There
were
also
two
different
colors
that
represented
vegetation
and
trees.
These
seemed
to
be
somewhat
well
defined
as
low
vegetation
like
grass
and
agricultural
fields
(red)
and
high
vegetation
shrubs
and
trees
(pink).
Q7: Briefly describe your observations of assigning land cover types to spectral classes.
I
had
a
hard
time
classifying
and
information
class
to
the
pink
spectral
class
because
it
showed
up
in
urban
areas
and
in
agricultural
areas.
I
made
the
assumption
that
the
color
represented
darker
green
vegetation,
which
was
either
shrubs
and
trees
or
dark
green
agriculture
crops.
It
could
be
that
the
pink
represented
only
trees
and
showed
up
in
the
agricultural
areas
because
there
were
tree
crops
planted.
The
Google
Earth
imagery
did
not
show
tree
crops
where
the
pink
polygons
occurred
in
agricultural
areas
but
this
could
be
because
the
Google
imagery
was
taken
at
a
different
time
period.
Perhaps
pecan,
apple,
or
another
type
of
tree
cop
could
have
been
planted
or
removed.
Q8:
Compare
the
two
image
classification
results
(assign
colors
to
land
cover
types)
Which
resulting
image
classification
method
is
better?
I
think
that
the
10-class
is
better
at
discerning
information.
The
15-class
image
had
too
many
colors
for
the
same
types
of
information,
which
seemed
to
create
more
error
when
combining
colors.
When
comparing
the
outputs
in
GIS
with
Google
Earth
imagery,
it
was
interesting
to
see
the
agricultural
fields
in
the
southwest
corner
of
the
GIS
image
completely
inundated
with
water
due
to
flood
irrigation.
I
was
able
to
ascertain
that
the
polygons
in
the
SW
corner
of
the
image
were
agricultural
fields
and
not
lakes
by
this
looking
at
Google
Earth
imagery
and
verifying
that
the
polygons
were
farm
fields.
This
verification
process
is
very
important
as
the
spectral
classes
may
have
errors
and
the
imagery
changes
during
different
times
of
year.
