Further Maths Revision and Exam Hints

Revision

1. Make a list of types of Questions you always get wrong.
e.g. contour maps, scale factor length, area, volume.

2. Target those problems when you get each handout / past exam.

3. Check - units used
- summary sentences / statements
- question answered.

4. Extract and label simplified diagrams before starting calculations.

5. Set out work sequentially down the space, not around in circles. If not enough space in short
answer, then are you working out too much?? Wrong ??

6. The most extensive bound reference will be of little value to you in the exams if you dont
have a good understanding of the maths beforehand.

Exam Technique

15 minutes reading time to:
- Read questions. Interpret each question.
- Mentally tag your easy questions

1 hours to do: CORE - hour
3 MODULES - 20 minutes each

When time starts:
Do easy problems first
Then within your allocated time go back and do the ones you left or were unsure of.
Dont go beyond your allocated time

Dont round values until a calculation is completed.
Dont cross out any workings unless you have provided a better answer.
Re-check units, decimal places and summary sentences.

Technique with Multiple Choice Problems

1. Read questions carefully.
2. Underline key facts in question.
3. Eliminate any Multiple Choice answers that are not possible.
4. Actually write a solution many mistakes are made doing it in your head without writing it
down.
5. Clearly colour in your multiple choice answer sheet with a grey lead pencil.

If time, use Classpad Geometry to check answers in both MC and short answer questions.
