he students have started bringing home boo&s 5a!ong $ith a co!or(u! bag to
store them in6. 2oth shou!d come bac& to schoo! dai!y. hese boo&s may be
too easy or too hard at the beginning. %e are 7ust getting them used to
bringing their boo&s home and reading at !east 18 minutes at night. A(ter our
assessment day and $e begin guided reading grou#s9the students $i!! start to
get boo&s at their !eve!. It may ta&e a cou#!e $ee&s9but $e!! get there!
Assessment Day
%e have di((erent assessment days throughout the year. ,uring these days
the students $i!! go to various s#ecia!s throughout the $ho!e day. I $i!! be
bringing sma!! grou#s bac& to the room to do a reading assessment. his is
$hen I try to (ind out their reading !eve! by having them read $ords, a story,
and ans$ering some "uestions (or me. A(ter the (irst assessment $e monitor
their gro$th as a reader. %e $i!! be assessing on uesday9so ma&e sure they
get #!enty o( s!ee# so theyre ready to go!
