the men signed an agreement on how to vote
on laws for the colony.
This agreement was the first written laws in
America, and is known as the Mayflower
Compact.

Instead of the King having power, the
Mayflower Compact gave the people power
to self govern through voting.
This principle of popular sovereignty would
guide the Founding Fathers in writing the US
Constitution.
