The document discusses plans for an environmentally friendly picnic. Brenda suggests they shouldn't use styrofoam cups or plates because they pollute. Billy agrees and says people shouldn't spill pollutants like oil or chemicals into waterways as it harms marine life. Charlie notes this destroys animal habitats. Susan's family avoids plastic bottles and bags, using reusable items instead. Charlie proposes an "environment picnic" using recyclable materials or plant-based wrappings. Susan and Brenda bring chicken and eggs from humanely treated chickens. Billy will bring drinks in reusable containers rather than cans. Brenda concludes the picnic will be fun and good for the earth.

Brenda: I think we shouldn't use styrofoam cups and styrofoam plates, because those things pollute
the environment. What do you think?
Billy: You're right, styrofoam pollutes the environment. I also think that people cannot spill oil, chemicals, detergents and other pollutants into rivers, lakes and oceans, because it destroys marine life, such as fish, plants, and coral reefs.
Charlie: It also alters animal populations because when plants are destroyed and water is poisoned, animals must leave their natural environment to try to find food.
Susan: My family and I don't like to use plastic bottles or plastic bags. We are learning to use cloth bags to go shopping. And we are learning to drink out of ceramic or porcelain cups. We drink from a cup, then wash it and dry it and use it again.
Charlie: Maybe we can all have an "environment" picnic, what do you think about that? We can bring food wrapped in newspaper or plant leaves, like the leaves of a banana plant. We can bring magazines printed on recycled paper.
Susan: I think those are very good plans. I'll bring Kentucky fried chicken, made from chickens that are treated humanely and fed good grains.
Brenda: And I will bring hard-boiled eggs from those chickens. Egg shells are good for compost for the soil.
Billy: And I'll bring water and juice for us to drink, not artificial beverages in cans, because cans are not good for the earth.
Brenda: It will be a wonderful picnic. We will have fun, and our picnic will be good for the earth!
