SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS (Equipment, Knowledge Required):
NEVER operate, service or adjust the ironworker without proper instructions.
NEVER place your hands, ingers or any other part o your !ody into the danger areas o the
machine, unless the motor is turned o and all main power switches are locked in the o position
and tagged.
Danger Areas are:
1) "unching and #hearing work stations (Areas Painted Red)
NEVER attempt to adjust, install or remove dies without irst shutting o the power to the
ironworker and locking and tagging the main power source in the o position.
NEVER attempt to pull a part out o the die with your hands. $ the part sticks in the die, stop the
ironworker and call your supervisor.
NEVER talk to another person while engaged in the operation o the ironworker. $ talking is
necessary, stop the machine and step aside away rom the machine until the conversation is
completed.
NEVER wear jewelry, neckties or loose clothing when working on or near machinery.
NEVER leave the machine running unattended
PROCEDRE:
Punc!ing
%he punch and die alignment must !e checked !eore using and ater a punch and die change have
!een made.
To c!ec" t!e a#ign$ent, switch the mode o operation to INC%& then inch the punch down !y
ully depressing the ootswitch. &are must !e taken as the punch approaches the die, i
misalignment is apparent remove oot rom switch.
To a#ign punc! and die release !olster i'ing screw, operate the oot switch with care, aligning the
!olster containing the die and punch, the punch will stay in the down position. &entralise the die
clearance around the punch, clamp the !olster in position, tighten the die retaining screw, check die
maintains in the central position ater clamping. Return punch to top position !y switching !ack to
run position.
T!e punc! stripper p#ate must !e correctly adjusted allowing suicient clearance or placing and
removal o material, !ut must not restrict the punch stroke, ensure the !ottom stroke limit switch is
correctly adjusted. "unch holes with suicient material around the hole so that contact will !e
made on !oth sides o the stripper plate. #tripping orces can !e severe and un!alanced stripping
orces, due to contact on one side o the stripper, may cause punch !reakages.
S!earing
%he quality o the cut is an immediate indication o the condition o the tooling.
Ensure hold down is always set or the relevant thickness o material !eing sheared. () *)%
allow ends o !ars to !e ed !eyond the hold down. %he !ar would tend to twist !etween !lades
and cause !ody distortion.

Keep the !lade area clean. (o not allow !uild up o mill scale.

Ang#eCutting
%he quality o the cut is an immediate indication o the condition o the tooling.
Ensure support screw is always set or the relevant thickness o material !eing cut.
+lways eed material !etween !lades rom the hold down side
Keep cutting aperture clean, small slivers, short cuts and any other pieces should !e removed rom
the !lade area. (o not allow !uild up o mill scale.

Section Cutting
%he quality o the cut is an immediate indication o the condition o the tooling.
Ensure !ar si,es are used in the smallest aperture that will accept them, ensuring a well supported
cut.

Keep cutting aperture clean, small slivers, short cuts and any other pieces should !e removed rom
the !lade area. (o not allow !uild up o mill scale.

Notc!ing
%he quality o the cut is an immediate indication o the condition o the tooling.
&heck that the notched !lank ejects ater the notching operation, thus avoiding any !uildup o
slugs.
