Hey Jey! So I just read this really interesting story off of the Hyperbole and a Half
blog. The story is called The Party. Its about this crazy little girl who has to go to the
dentist on the same day of one of her friends birthday partys. This little girl pretty much
begs her mom to let her go to the party after her dental surgery but her mom tells her that
after the surgery the medicine is gonna make her feel bad and that she wont even want to
go. Pero es tan terca! (But shes so stubborn!) Anyways she ends up making a deal with
her mom, the deal was that if she is capable of running across the park after she surgery
then that is enough for her to show that she is recovered enough to go to her friends
party. Goodness y luego (and then) this little crazy girl finally gets out of surgery and she
wakes up on the ride home so the only thing she can think of is that the park is important
to her for some reason. So recuerda (remember) she is heavily medicated and she starts
telling her mom PARP, PARP, but of course her mom didnt know what that meant so
she ignores her! Then boom! She tries to go to the park on her own by getting out of the
moving vehicle loca (crazy). Her mom ends up stopping to get her food and at this point
the little girl remembers about the party, so she causes a scene in the middle of a Jack in
the Box and starts crying and begging her mom to take her to the park so she can go to
the party. Her mom gets so upset because shes going all crazy so she starts yelling at her
to, well how our moms would say, deja tu locura (stop your madness) All this while shes
hella drugged up! So from an outsiders prospective it looks like a special needs girl
getting denied the opportunity to go to a party or a park all by her rude, evil mother. Oh
man, crazy story huh?

Its funny Jey cause that story reminded me of that one time I tried to convince my mom
to let me go to Six Flags with you even though I was super sick, and I had to miss school
to go with you. You didnt see the esfuerzo (effort) I put into going. My goodness so let
me tell you!

Well this was back like three years ago, remember? I was in 10
th
grade back at my old
school and you told me that you Johnny, Katie, and Jacob were going to Six Flags. So
when you asked me to tag along because you had an extra ticket I knew that the only way
I was going to be able to go was with my moms permission. But lo que no te dije (what I
didnt tell you) was that the day you asked me I had just gotten a flu, a very bad flu. Sabia
que (I knew that) my mom wouldnt let me go forsure if she knew I was sick. So when I
asked I made sure to hide it as best as I could, but she already knew! Anyways I asked
and at first she looked me dead in the eyes and Estas loca! Como esperas ir si estas
enferma? (Youre crazy! How do you expect to go if youre sick?) So right at that
moment I put on my most healthy looking face and smiled real big and told I wasnt
nowhere near sick and that I felt as healthy as a horse! But she wasnt buying my bullshit
so she walked away from me saying that if I wasnt sick by the time the date came around
I could go. Oh boy I did everything I could to hide that flu! I even went to the neighbors
house to puke instead of mine so she wouldnt catch me! And get this, I used make up to
cover my dark circles of my sleepless nights from my aches, pains, and vomit outbursts.
Well I did such a good job, she let me go with you guys remember? Oh yeah you do
remember because you were the one who held my hair while I puked in a trashcan after
our first ride. Then you guys took turns sitting out with me because I was so sick I
couldnt do anything. I remember you tried to BEG me to let you take me home! But if I
went home then all my efforts would have been wasted, so instead I wasted a ticket to Six
Flags because I spent that majority of the time in stall throwing up or at the tables with a
headache. Im really sorry about that time by the way.

Can you see how my story and the one story about the girl I was telling you about could
relate? Were almost in the same situation that little girl was focused and did what she had
to do to make sure she went to that party even though she had just had surgery! And I,
well I did what I had to do to go to Six Flags, I was stubborn about not leaving just like
she was stubborn about going even though she couldnt even talk right! The situations are
just funny to look at now that theyre in the past. But call me later so we can catch up. Te
extrano feo (I miss you ugly).

-Love,
Your best friend Carmen
