i'm writing this with tears flowing

down my cheeks because i am so overwhelmed by the kindness that was just
dropped off at our front door (Wed 10th).
a very kind person, i don't know who because i only caught a glimpse of a woman
heading back to her car in our driveway,
left a hot, freshly baked apple Crisp, and
a Banana Loaf for us with a note saying...
Thank You for all that you do and a smiley
face. i immediately phoned Peter to tell
him that not all people hate teachers, and
that someone appreciates all the hard
work he's been doing on behalf of the
teachers in this district during the strike.
to the woman who was so thoughtful
in dropping this off, thanks are not enough.
You have no idea what this means to both
of us. after months of feeling reviled by
the public because it seems so many people
dislike teachers (and by association, their
family members), this has brought a ray of
sunshine to us today. thank you, thank
you, thank you whoever you are.

While going door to door, introducing myself as a candidate for City Council, I got quite
a surprise: At one house a man opened his door as he was restraining a large dog by its
collar. I told him who I was and why I was at his door. Out of habit, I reached forward to
shake hands. The dog suddenly jumped, lunged and sank his teeth right through my finger. The man apologized, saying "Well, I guess I'll HAVE to vote for you now."

cup granulated sugar
Preheat oven to 400 F. Wash, cut in half
and pit the plums. Lay halved plums out
on rimmed cookie sheets with cut side
up and place in the oven for 20 min.
Check often to avoid burning the plums.
after 20 mins, remove plums from the
oven and let them cool. Blend plums in
food processor until smooth and pour
mixture into a large bowl.
add cup sugar (optional) to blended
plums and stir well. Line rimmed baking
sheet with parchment (not wax paper!)
Pour in the pure, "- " thickness.
Let dry in a low (140F) oven until the
pure has dried out and formed fruit
leather, about 6-8 hours, depending on
the thickness. Use a pizza cutter to cut
into srips. to store it, put it in an airtight
container or ziplock bag, and store in the
refrigerator or freezer.
