LOCATION
On the abdomen, 2 cun lateral to the midline
and 5 cun superior to the umbilicus, level
with Shangwan REN-13.
LOCATION NOTE
i. The 2 cun line is located halfway between the midline
and the palpable lateral border of the rectus abdominis
muscle; ii. In some patients with a narrow subcostal angle,
this point may fall on the costal margin. The options then
are to a. locate more medially, b. needle transversely on
the costal margin, c. select a different point.
NEEDLING
Perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 1 cun.
Caution: i. in thin subjects, deep needling may penetrate
the peritoneal cavity; ii. deep needling at right Chengman
ST-20 may penetrate an enlarged liver.
ACTIONS
Harmonises the middle jiao
Descends rebellion of the Lung and Stomach
INDICATIONS
Epigastric pain, vomiting, vomiting blood, spitting
blood, hiccup, difficult ingestion, poor appetite, ab-
dominal distention, borborygmus, diarrhoea,
hardness and pain of the lateral costal region.
Shortness of breath, wheezing, difficult breathing
with raised shoulders.
COMBINATIONS
Difficult ingestion: Chengman ST-20, Zhongfu LU-1,
Kunlun BL-60, Yuji LU-10 and Zhourong SP-20 (Sup-
plementing Life).
Hardness and pain of the lateral costal region:
Chengman ST-20 and Zhongwan REN-12 (Thousand
Ducat Formulas).
