Presidents Message

Summer is over, Fall is here. You still may have a few more
weeks to do some prospecting.
Don't be shy of looking in your own backyard, you never
know what you might come up with.
Turkey shoot is November 8th, get signed up and remember
it's all pot luck.
Nominations start this month so figure out who you want to
run the club next year, then nominate them, remember you
can always nominate yourself also. It's probably past time
for new blood with new ideas, so if you think you can help,
step up.

The Challenge of Fine Gold Recovery

By far the most common type of gold that
modern-day prospectors find is fine gold. Of
course not every nugget or chunky piece has
been found yet and conditions change all the
time, so never stop looking, but a good bit of
the larger "easy" placer pieces have been
scooped up. So what remains is a lot of flour
gold that is often mixed with black sand and
other materials. If you've been stockpiling
buckets of concentrates this summer and
know there's gold in there just waiting to be
recovered, you're in good company. It's usu-
ally more time efficient to process your mate-
rial when you're back at home instead of
while out in the field.

Recovering the tiniest bits of the shiny stuff has always been a
challenge, but with the help of new products and technology that
the old-timers never had, it just makes sense (and cents) to put
in the effort. It all adds up!

If you have a lot of concentrates you want to process FAST, you
can't go wrong with a Gold Cube. A Blue Bowl Concentrator can
recover gold as fine as talcum powder. If you don't have a lot of
muscle power, a number of spiral gold panning machines excel
at recovering fine gold. Another option that doesn't take up much
space is the Catch-It II Water Table. The BRAND NEW Gold
Bandit has just come on the market, too.
History Nugget: The Richest Square Mile on Earth
On May 6, 1859, John Gregory made the
first lode gold discovery in the Rockies.
Gregory Gulch is located between the pre-
sent-day towns of Central City and Black
Hawk, Colorado and is referred to as "The
Richest Square Mile On Earth. Within two
months of Gregorys initial gold discovery,
900 fortune-seekers were living in log shan-
ties and tents. By the following summer, the
population had swollen to 10,000. In no time,
businesses and mills were thriving and the
area became a leading mining center. Be-
tween 1859 and 1918 (considered by the
National Register of Historical Places to be
the areas period of significance), the total
gold output was $83,364,157! Most of this was in the form of placer gold, but by the end of 1863,
work had shifted to hard rock mining.
The best way to learn more about this important gold rush and admire its architecture at the same
time is to stop at Central City's Visitor Center and pick up a walking tour map. You can also take a
driving tour of the scenic forested hills above town. You'll find gold rush cemeteries, abandoned
mines, head frames, and many other mining relics. You can also try your luck at the gaming tables
in town limited stakes gaming was legalized in 1991.

Last Months Minutes
September 13, 2014 is the Road Clean-Up at 9:00 am. It is from Rocky Point to the Pepsi
building.
Next month we start the nominations for the new Board Members. Everyone needs to start
thinking of who they would like to nominate.
There is still a sign-up sheet set out for the Turkey Shoot on Saturday, November 8, 2014 and
the Christmas Party on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Sheri has the sign-up sheets with
her.
Rich talked about KMack. He saw some dredges in the Middle Fork River. It should be closed
to dredging. The river was full but not bad, you could have gotten across it if you wanted to in
places. The landing on the Kmack is pretty dug up. He also heard a bear there.
Stanley There is an old dredge still sitting there. It is a tough road to get to the claim.
Curtly Creek There is a private property sign and it has been dredged. The owner brings the
dirt and you can prospect it. His last name is Cottrell. It is over by Salmon.
Rich Fellows was the speaker at this meeting. He is a mining consultant and geologist. He
started out looking for the treasures in prospecting and got hooked from there.
