BURN

Purpose: To initiate and expedite care from triage for all MEDcare patients based on
presenting symptoms and agreed upon guidelines.


Common presenting symptoms sets include:

Pain
Blistering
Redness
Non-intact tissue

Procedure:

1. Place patient in procedure room. Reveal burned area.
2. Saturate gauze with cool tap water and apply to burn site for temporary pain relief.
3. Apply sulfa-silvadene cream after burn assessed by physician.
4. Cover with non-adherent dressing.

Orders:
Cool dressing immediately
Silvadene dressing prior to discharge

Additional Considerations:
IV Fluids-depending on severity and total body percentage affected
Tetanus IM

Contraindications:
Allergies to tetanus and/or sulfa
