ANNUAL EVENT GIVES 10,000 STUDENTS FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES

FORT WORTH (Feb. 14, 2014)-- Back to School Roundup will host its 10
th
annual
event, sponsored by Wal-Mart, to outfit 10,000 kids with free school supplies from 8 a.m. - 2
p.m. on Aug. 6
th
at Will Rodgers Memorial Center in Fort Worth.
In addition to school supplies, the event also offers backpacks, haircuts, immunizations,
health, vision and dental screenings, all at no charge. There will be a vendor expo that will have
booths with local businesses that provide ongoing social service support for families. There will
also be kid friendly activities that include a kid friendly performance and games, as well as
Radio Disney will host a live remote on site. Pre-registration is required to participate in the
event. To qualify, students must reside in Tarrant County, be enrolled in public school entering
Pre-K through 12
th
grades and qualify for the Free or Reduced Lunch program.
In Tarrant County there are 147,000 students who meet the qualifications, and at the
event we will only be able to serve a maximum of 10,000 kids, said Back to School Roundup
Board President, Judi Ketchum.
To register, attendees must bring a picture ID, proof or Tarrant County residency, and
proof of income to one of the pre-registration events the Roundup will host during June and July.
Participants receive vouchers that allow them to receive access to free items and services, as well
as free transportation to and from the event on The T.

Back to School Roundup is managed by volunteers and funded through private
donations. All profits go to supplies and vendors for the event. The Roundup is endorsed a by the
Tarrant County Commissioners Court and sponsored by Wal-mart and Sams Club.

ABOUT BACK TO SCHOOL ROUND UP
Back to School Roundup is a nonprofit founded in 2004 by a collaboration of 18
partner agencies. The group believed that educating kids is the best way to end the poverty cycle.
The Roundup held its first day-long event in 2005 and served more than 6,000 kids. In 2010 the
Roundup extended it services to kids in Pre-K through 12
th
grade, and has now served
approximately 80,000 students.
