STOCK - A type of security that signifies ownership in a corporation and represents a claim on part of
the corporation's assets and earnings.
SHARES - A unit of ownership interest in a corporation or financial asset.
DIVIDENDS - A distribution of a portion of a company's earnings, decided by the board of directors, to
a class of its shareholders. A dividend is a payment made by a corporation to its shareholders, usually as
a distribution of profits.
SHAREHOLDER (or stockholder) is an individual or company (including a corporation) that legally
owns one or more shares of stock in a joint stock company.
BONDS- A debt investment in which an investor loans money to an entity (corporate or
governmental) that borrows the funds for a defined period of time at a fixed interest rate.
