Rotary Lime Kiln

This type of kiln will achieve a daily production of some 600 to 2,000 tonnes. The heat
consumption of a rotary kiln is markedly higher than that of vertical shaft kilns. This
"disadvantage" is frequently compensated for by the flexibility with which the kiln can be
operated.
Alongside the thermal stress, chemical and mechanical loading also play a large part with
regard to the economical service lives of wear linings. Since there is no readiness to form
coatings or these are unstable, the lining - in particular in the transition areas and burning zones
- subject to extreme thermal stress. Due to the lack of insulating layers to the steel jacket and
with a wear lining measuring only 250 mm in thickness, there is often a temperature difference
of 1,000 to 1,100 Celcius from the "hot" to the "cold" side of a refractory brick.
Extremely high quality materials with specially-developed properties, such as for example
enhanced resistance to thermal shock and excellent resistance to sulphur and alkalis, are
features of the RHI Refractories grades and in combination with proven inlet concepts guarantee
the required availability of the plant together with the longest possible service life of the linings.
