QUEENS BATON RELAY
Over a period of 288 days the baton will visit 70 nations and territories, cover
190,000 kilometres and involve a third of the world's population, making it the
world's most engaging relay.

Launched on - 9 October 2013 from Buckingham Palace, where Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II placed Her message to the Commonwealth into the baton.

The baton will then depart from Glasgow for its epic journey, beginning in Asia,
visiting India, the Host Nation of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The Queens Baton Relay will conclude its journey at the Games Opening Ceremony
on 23 July 2014.

Designed by Beth Gilmour, who won a competition run by Glasgow 2014 for children
to design the Mascot
DRUG TESTING AND DOPING
Nigeria's Chika Amalaha failed a doping test and was stripped of a gold medal in
the women's 53 kg weightlifting.

In the women's 400 metres final, Botswana's Amantle Montsho placed fourth; she was
subsequently provisionally suspended pending the results of a B sample after failing a
doping test.

Wrestling
1. Yogeshwar Dutt: In Mens wrestling, 65 kg freestyle Yogeshwar Dutt brought laurels to the
country by clinching gold medal after defeating Canadas Jevon Balfour in the final.
2. Sushil Kumar: In Mens wrestling, 75kg freestyle Sushil Kumar defeated Qamar Abbas of
Pakistan what turned out to be a lopsided event. In just 107 minutes Sushil trounced his
opponent to take home gold.
3. Amit Kumar: Nigerian Ebikweminomo Welson was Amit Kumars opponent in the final of
Mens wrestling, 57kg freestyle. Amit defeated Welson 3-1 to claim the gold medal.
4. Babita Kumari: In Womens wrestling; 55 kg freestyle Babita Kumari completely dominated
the proceedings over Canadas Brittanee Laverdure and defeated her 9-2 in the finals for the
coveted gold medal.
5. Vinesh Phogat: InWomens wrestling, 48kg freestyle youngster Vinesh Phogat who is just 19
years old defeated Yana Rattigan of England by 11-8 to be part of the glorious 15.
Shooting
1. Jitu Rai: InMens shooting, 50 m Pistol Jitu Rai who set finals games record gathering a total
of 194.1 points won gold for his country. Gurpal Singh with 187.2 points settled with silver in
this category.
2. Abhinav Bindra: In Mens 10m Air Rifleformer Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra
claimed his first individual gold at the commonwealth Games when he finished witha final
games record score of 205.3.
3. Rahi Sarnobat: Itwas an all-Indian affair in the final of Womens shooting 25 m Pistol event
as Rahi Sarnobat defeated Anisa Sayyed to clinch the gold medal.
4. Apurvi Chandela: InWomens shooting, 10 m Air Rifle rising star Apurvi Chandela claimed
her first international medal. Apurvi triumphed over her compatriot Ayonika Paul to win the
gold medal.
Weightlifting
1. Satish Sivalingam: In Mens weightlifting, 77 kg Satish Sivalingam created a games record
with a total lift of 328 kg to claim gold medal while Ravi Katulu lifted total of 317 kg to win
silver medal.
2. Sukhen Dey: On the opening day of the competition Sukhen Dey in Mens weightlifting 56 kg
categoryclaimed gold medal by lifting a total of 248 kg. He was impressive in clean and jerk
round to win the medal.
3. K Sanjita Chanu: In Womens weightlifting 48 kg category K Sanjita Chanu with a total lift of
173 kg won the prized gold medal.
Athletics
1. Vikas Gowda: After winning the gold medal In Mens discus throwVikas Gowda became the
first Indian man to win a field event gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Gowda threw
the discus to 63.64m to clinch the gold medal.
Squash
1. Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa: In Womens doubles finals the pair of Dipika Pallikal
and Joshana Chinappa defeated Englands Jenny Duncalf and Laura Massaro 11-6, 11-8 in
straight sets. The pair gave India their first squash medal in the Commonwealth Games.
Badminton
1. Parupalli Kashyap: became the first Indian male shuttler in 32 years to win a gold
medal in the Commonwealth Games against Derek Wong of Singapore.

The 27-year-old from Hyderabad thus joined badminton legend Prakash Padukone
and the late Syed Modi, who had won the title in the past. While Padukone had won
the men's singles gold medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Canada, Modi
retained it four years later.
