International comparisons
for gas analysis
NPL frequently participates in international gas analysis comparisons with other NMIs. These comparisons provide
a robust framework by which to demonstrate the global comparability of gas standards and measurements.
International comparisons are organised by the Consultative Committee for Amount of Substance (CCQM)
of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM).
Regional (European) comparisons are organised by the Technical Committee of Metrology in Chemistry
(TC-MC) of the European Association of National Measurement Institutes (EURAMET).
Gas analysis comparisons can be analytical or preparative in nature.

Results from all CCQM comparisons are accessible on the BIPM Key Comparison Database: http://kcdb.bipm.org.
Results from comparisons are used to compile internationally-recognised Calibration and Measurement
Capabilities (CMCs) for reference materials (delivered through NPLs Primary Reference Gas Mixtures) and
measurement capability (NPLs Calibrated Gas Mixtures).
