Setup
Print and cut out all of the gym leader cards and gym badges. Sort them into two piles, one for gym
leaders and one for badges.
Rules
Whenever a player makes a movement which involves either landing on or passing a city with a gym
leader, they may choose to battle the gym leader of that city. If that player chooses to battle the
gym leader, they may not use the effects that the city grants (i.e. draw 2 item cards or heal a
Pokemon). As with Rival battles, an opponent is chosen to be the gym leader and both players roll
off, adding the attack bonus of any cards/rolls.
If the challenger beats the roll of the gym leader, that player is awarded the corresponding Gym
Badge from the pile and draws an item from the item deck. However, if that player loses, the chosen
Pokemon becomes unconscious and their turn ends. That player may choose to re-challenge the
gym leader on their next turn. Once a player has all 8 Gym Badges (or another set amount), they are
able to travel to the Indigo Plateau.
Rule Change: Since a player may already be in a city where you want to challenge the gym leader,
any number of players may land on a city space without having to fight or trade with a rival trainer. A
fight or trade can still be issued to another player, but the other player is allowed to decline.
Rule Change 2: If a players movement takes them over a city space, they have the option to
surrender the rest of their movement to fight the Gym Leader of that city. They are not allowed to
use the effects of that city while fighting a Gym Leader.
