Tegan Baby Hat with Top Knot
This hat is knit in the round on double pointed pins or circular needle according to your
preference. Five sizes are given from preemie to 2 years.

Suggested yarns:
The pattern uses double knit/light worsted weight/8 ply yarn. (11wpi)
I have used Debbie Bliss Rialto DK but any double knit yarn that knits to the correct tension will
do
Materials needed
25 -45grams [60-100] yards double knit yarn
Set of 3.25mm (US size 3) double pointed pins
Set of 4mm (US size 6) double pointed pins
Stitch marker

Abbreviations
cast off = bind off in US
garter stitch = one round in knit stitch, one round in purl
K = knit
K2tog = knit two stitches together
sts = stitches
stockingette = every round in knit stitch(this is stocking stitch in UK)
[ ] = work the instructions in the brackets by the number of times indicated


Sizes
Preemie (premature baby) - hat circumference approx 11 (29cm) fits 4-6lb babies
0-3 months hat circumference approx 12 (30cm) - fits head size up to 14 (35cm)
3-6 months hat circumference approx 13 (33cm) - fits head size 14-16 (35-40cm)
6-12 months - hat circumference approx 14 (36cm) - fits head size 16-18 (40-45cm)
1-2 years - hat circumference approx 16 (40cm) - fits head size 18-19 (45-48cm)


Gauge (Tension)
22sts and 28 rows to 10x10cm (4x4) square in stockinette on 4mm (US Size 6) needles
Please take a little time to knit a tension square. If your square is too small, try knitting again
using a bigger pair of needles. If your square is too big, try knitting again on smaller sized
needles.

Instructions are given for the first size. The figures in brackets refer to the larger sizes. Where
only one figure is given, this applies to all four sizes.
It is a good idea to circle with a pencil the size you wish to make.

Instructions

Using your smaller needles cast on
66(72)(78)(84)(90), place stitch marker and
join to begin knitting in the round.



Work 8 rounds garter stitch



Change to your larger needles and work in
stockinette until the hat measures
4(4 )(4 )(5)(5 )ins (10(11)(12)(13)(14)cm)
