The TidesOF SCIENCE!

Tides
Tides are the daily changes in the ocean level
along the shores around the world.
This is caused primarily by the gravitational
pull of the moon on the Earths oceans.
Tides

Tides
This pull of the moon causes the oceans of the
water to bulge/stick out at the sides of the
Earth, forming Tidal bulges.
The moon isnt the only force to contend with,
though!

Thought question
What other celestial body has an effect on the
tides?
Hint:

Spring tides are when the moon and sun are
pulling on the Earths oceans in parallel
directions.
When does this occur?
Neap tides are when the moon and sun pull in
perpendicular directions.
When does this occur?
Tidal ranges are the difference in water level
between low and high tide.
The shape of the land and water depth are
seriously affected by a regions tidal range
E.g.: the Bay of Fundy between Nova Scotia
and New Brunswick
Has a tidal range of 15 meters/50 feet!
Quiz questions

the tidal cycle.
